Regarding Sumo Tournaments

Post by karas »

Okay, since I'm not really happy with current sumo tournaments I'll try to host my own in the future (or at least help organizing the ones I play). What I'll probably do is to reset the wiki page/deal with user registration, ask for servers and create brackets. Before anything, I guess it's a good idea to get some information from sumo players, so I can decide on a good date to host it & stuff like that. So, if you care or whatever fill this form :

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/11ewSAM ... g/viewform

It should take like 1-2 min (same questions for SBT, TST, WST & 1v1). Do not think of a specific date, just answer as general as possible (the form could use some tweaking, yeah). I also recommend you to note somewhere the date & time after you submit your answer or better yet, to post here after you've done it. This should help prevent fake submissions (since anyone can use your name and submit new information).

I think the best choice for the EU/US split is to divide the players/teams into 3 groups : EU, US and those that don't care/don't want the EU/US split. First I'll fill brackets for the EU side, then US side and then add the last group in, so everyone should be happy.

I will leave the form open for 1 week (until next ladle I guess). If you think more time is better, feel free to post in this topic. I don't have a lot of time for tron, so I thought I'll end it at the next competition.

I will also post the statistics here after it's done, so you can use it yourself at whatever you want (I won't publish individual submissions, even though it's not something you'd want to hide). Thanks.

Interpretation :

SBT : one every 3 months
TST : one every 3 months
WST : one every 4 months
1v1 : one every 6 months

Best tournament day : Sunday

SBT, TST, 1v1 - should have EU/US split; WST - it's debatable

Hello, so far only 12 players voted, including a player "iAteLiz'sPussy&GotAids" (not sure if I should consider these or not - the preferred time seems a bit off so I'll probably ignore it). I guess this is not enough for a decision so I'll let the voting for couple more weeks. Please tell your tron friends to vote if you think the results will help the sumo tournaments :P

Btw, it's really easy for me to delete entries so you shouldn't bother submitting fake data :)

And it's done. Only 12 players voted for this (I removed "i ate liz pussy"). I guess that's good enough for me. Don't blame me for the statistics quality, it's super late here :P

Sorry for all these double posts, but I just need to notify people there's new content :P

I posted results in first post.

Here's some interpretation of the data :

Average time for tournaments :
SBT : 3.45 months (so one every 3 months)
TST : 3.33 months (one every 3 months)
WST : 4.45 months (one every 4 months)
1v1 : 6 months (one every 6 months)

Best tournament day : Sunday

SBT, TST, 1v1 - should have EU/US split; WST - it's debatable :D

Magi wrote:Just for future reference, I think we should have a schedule for sumo tournaments for the year, I've thought of two plausible schedules:
January: SBT, February: TST, March: WST, April: Break month, May: SBT, June: TST, July: WST, August: Break month, September: SBT, October: TST, November: WST: December Break month

or

January SBT, February: Break, March: TST, April: Break, May: WST, June: Break, July: SBT, August: Break, September: TST, October: Break, November: WST, December: Break

This way we would get 2-3 SBT, TST and WSTs a year, that's 6 to 9 sumo tournaments a year, 6 is more than enough I think. It would also leave months open for other tournaments like the CTWF and any other events like 1v1 Sumo or Single bind, things that are held less often and aren't as common. Just a suggestion that I think would make tournament planning smoother and easier for people to remember what's coming up
Quoting this from the last WST thread.

yes, i am too drunk atm to read all that, but that was my idea exactly, to make a sumo season and deal with everything just once. would be easier for everyone like that. however, i'm not sure when i'll do that :P probably in the next months.
