Lets stop the "timeout" discussion, It was our fault getting distracted for something that shouldnt happen because its not on the rules.

I think pickupstyle warmup on every match is the key to be able to avoid such problems as well as:vov wrote:What about implementing the warmup system, the ready-up-thingy you probably know from pickup, into ladle? From my experience timeouts are requested 1-2 times a ladle and it's always a tense situation because you have about 10 seconds from the end of one match to the start of another for communication. This time it didn't work and a misunderstanding led to some problems. What do you do after a problem? Make sure it doesn't happen again!
The warmup system is good for it because you need everyone to ready up and there's no doubt you were ready when the match starts (both were problems yesterday and also in some previous tourneys). Against abuse (dragging stuff out with it) there could be a 3-minute or 5-minute rule to keep possible delays short.
As I'm not up to par with the development at the moment, on which server types would this be available? It's the only (but possibly large) problem I would see with it because I've only seen it on v0.4 so far and ladle servers commonly run v0.2 right now.
enable a small timeout for strategic feedback / pee / other stuff.

GGs, was a fun ladle
My internet shut down in match 3 against Rd. These things happen, someone subbed in for me, we played on

nope, not gonna happen. the servers will become even shittier and unstabletakburger wrote:I think pickupstyle warmup on every match is the key to be able to avoid such problems as well as:vov wrote:What about implementing the warmup system, the ready-up-thingy you probably know from pickup, into ladle? Why not? Seems like a good idea to me.Orion wrote:0.4 hosting? please dont..
Anway, GZ to KS.
One issue I'd like to discuss is the number of specs allowed. I couldn't watch the final because the server only allowed 32 people in it. However, some other Ladle servers had set the maximum number of people allowed in to 64. Can we have some consistency here please? Also, can some people in the know tell us whether specs actually add to the lag in servers...I suspect that specs don't actually add to lag but I may be wrong.

Re: Ladle 79
So then if "so many" are against v0.4 servers, why do they play pickup on them when there's megafort on v0.2? I don't see more complaints on pickup servers than on ladle servers. The only reason why it couldn't be done would be the server admins refusing.

Maybe you should start playing pickup more? the servers are horrible.

vov doesn't play this game, he's just crying because none of the rd specs were good enough to fill in for the guy who dc'edGazelle wrote:vov wrote:So then if "so many" are against v0.4 servers, why do they play pickup on them when there's megafort on v0.2? Re: Ladle 79
They do. I can't back it up with dev knowledge or proof other than my own experiences, but they do. I've heard plenty of devs say specs add minimal or no lag at all, but that hasn't been the case in tournaments. It was especially noticable in ctf tourneys where ~5 specs would make a huge difference. One moment the server is fine, completely solid, then everyone lags and you notice it's suddenly full of specs (because game in other server finished or w/e). In fortress it doesn't make a huge difference (less turns = less data sent to each connection?) per spec but with 60 people in the server (players+specs) it's never been lagless, and very often horrible. Up to 32 seems to be ok.Monkey wrote:Also, can some people in the know tell us whether specs actually add to the lag in servers...I suspect that specs don't actually add to lag but I may be wrong.
Edit: sumo tourney matches with 20+ specs are pretty horrible too. adds to the "less turns" theory.
Of course, this theory is uneducated so I'm ready to be proven wrong once and for all, but I'm not the only one who have noticed a connection.
Re: Ladle 79
The only difference I can call between a pickup server and a ladle server, aside from the obvious point differences, is the ready system. Just from personal experience, I would believe that this ready system is a big causation of the lag. I could play on most servers normally, and then as soon as touching a pickup server notice a big difference in quality. I think this notice is especially big across seas. I've played in servers run from the same host and seen different quality between pickup and non-pickup. It may just be me, but I think it is an impact of the ready system implemented.

We could have one player with a good connection to stream via twitch.tv and lower the number of specs.Titanoboa wrote:They do. Again, no rule was violated, so thankfully we don't have to worry about a dq. Thanks for making sure, thoughVogue wrote:i'm simply pointing it out for future reference, so nobody gets revenge-dq
