Oh good, trash-talk from a nobody. I wish I could say I am surprised to see you clumsily attack an entire community, but I'm not.

Armagetron is an important part of many lives. It is a place where people come not only to have fun, but to experiment and learn, and sometimes give and receive solid advice about meaningful, personal topics. The game has been around well over a decade and has people playing it online 24 hours a day with multiple tournaments a month. Very few games can make that claim. Arma may not be "popular," but it is an extremely solid game with a dedicated following, people who continue to add creativity and code to it. Armagetron forums not worthy of serious consideration? No my dear sir, you are mistaken. But we are not mistaken about you.

And we are a kind and generous people here, so when we say "you should probably exit this thread now before you embarrass yourself more," it is out of general decency. But if you feel like taking on the whole community we would be happy to humiliate you extensively if that's what you want. As I said, we are generous.

convict is right in his own regard, he doesn't play the game that much and isn't interested in the community, so your opinions mean very little to him and it will probably stay that that way in the future

although he is embarassing himself for sure

It's a character flaw, I admit.
I have all these textures that I made over the years, ranging from random stuff to themed collections (including my incomplete yet still sizable JSRF-inspired suite). I've wanted to distribute them for folks to use since it would seem a shame for that amount of work to just go by the wayside with only myself only ever having seen them. But I look at the character of this game's "community" now and I just think, "you all don't deserve them." Not that the textures are anything special, but just that I don't want to do favors for these people. It's really disappointing.

Nope, your mentality is still sexist. Mind you, a view or characterization doesn't need to be pejorative to still be sexist. Indeed, when it's actively negative or hostile, we have another particular word for that: misogyny.

Had no time to reply earlier. It's just that you change your aliases frequently and thus probably have a different opinion about it.
I've only had three aliases on the forum, the middle one being pretty irrelevant since I wasn't involved with either the forum or the game during the period it was in place. I agree it makes sense to have a single alias* for purposes of being identifiable in the community, if you have some reason to be.

In-game can be a little different. Now, in my first couple years playing I used my primary alias, Oscilloscope, most of the time. I had a few others that I used now and then, mainly when I would change color—"Oscilloscope is my yellow name. This is my orange, and this other is my green...." But toward the end of my first stint with this game, and ever since my return, I've almost never used an identifiable alias, using something different almost every time I play. The reason being that whenever I did or do use Oscilloscope or Phytotron, the usual suspects inevitably show up out of nowhere, often in a group, to harass me.

* No one has argued that a person shouldn't use an alias on a forum or in a game; the argument isn't that we should be using our real names. The position presented by sinewav is that if one wants to have some some sort of notable presence in the community then one should be identifiable. That even if you want to be anonymous some of the time, you should at least use or identify that primary alias during those instances where it's relevant, like, say, soliciting someone to do you a favor beyond "defense down!"

God damn, you're a feckless moron, Convict. "Enough said," indeed.

Then wouldn't it be passively sexist to produce clothes and books that are written for either mostly girls or either mostly boys (or would you say that "black music" is in any context racist - and shouldn't be used to explain the musical trends of the first half of the 20th century)? I mean, somewhere, you have to acknowledge that there's a difference between the two genders and that companies try to benefit from that. I don't question that this a simplified view of the world and that it's ignoring all the exceptions.

I think I see what you are saying Word. I looked over your statement again and I can read it as a harmless. To say "girlish" helps set up the example of "changing clothes on a puppet," which I take to mean engaging in a superficial activity. Your point is to say changing aliases constantly is a hollow activity, juvenile or "childish," but not "weak" in sexist masculine/feminine way.

Yes, this. I'd add that it's not completely hollow either. By saying "childish" I meant the act of changing the alias is usually something pure, straightforward, undisguised (this isn't contradictory at all because the name is the first, and perhaps the only thing people in the game see of you when you enter - and they can draw some conclusions about you based on nothing but your choice of aliases - just like you can say a little about a girl's taste thanks to the clothes she gets her parents to buy for her puppet) and innocent (i.e. all the players who adopt the name of a movie hero that is currently popular).

I would be forever grateful if you would make this available. I will even refrain from any stupidity on these forums if that's what it takes.

I really don't see how that's much different from what I was trying to express.

For starters, I wasn't trash talking the people here. I just can't imagine that whatever I do here would effect anything in my life at all.
Also, I haven't said I don't like the community. I've had arguments on here before and if someone has a question about something to do with anything I can help with (even after the arguments), they still give my suggestions a try, and a lot of the time I've provided the solution. so I wouldn't say I'm completely useless here, even though that's the way I'm being made out. I've actually helped this community a lot.

If anyone here thinks I take what I say very lightly, then you're right, of course I do.
I'd say that most of you take what you say, and what others say, TOO seriously!
Chill the f**ck out people, this isn't exactly life changing stuff, and if it is for you then I suggest taking up a new hobby :o

Not necessarily. I'm still not quite sure you even fully understand what sexism means.
(or would you say that "black music" is in any context racist - and shouldn't be used to explain the musical trends of the first half of the 20th century)?
Say what? Relevance?
I mean, somewhere, you have to acknowledge that there's a difference between the two genders
Yes, but what differences are legitimate, and which are constructs, and which are destructive and create or perpetuate inequality, injustice, patriarchy, subjugation, etc.?
and that companies try to benefit from that.
Doesn't justify anything.

Not necessarily. I'm still not quite sure you even fully understand what sexism means.
Well, I supposed I do - the question was semi-rhetorical because it seems like you have a wider definition of it than I have.
Relevance?
If one can attribute a specific cultural development/an observation of any kind to an ethnic group that is generally regarded as correct, why can't you do that with dolls and little girls? I don't question that one can produce negative stereotypes out of that.
I suppose that's what you meant when you said this:
but what differences are legitimate, and which are constructs, and which are destructive and create or perpetuate inequality, injustice, patriarchy, subjugation, etc.?
And I don't encourage any of those things by saying that girls play with dolls, I'm simply recognizing it as a part of society, childhood in particular, as I know it, not how it should be (in an ideal/the best possible world for everyone, if you will).
