I generally don't post on topics as I get back up to speed, but an exception I think.

I was talking about Armagetron to a friend the other day and he suggested a text adventure version.

Code: Select all

You are approaching a wall.
>> Turn left.
You fail to turn left.
>> Turn left.
You fail to turn left.
You hit the wall.
End of line.
Somehow, I think the art here would fit in really well with this and make actually a pretty good game somehow.

Hmm...

So it would be analogous to using the in cam view?

Reminds me of IF quake: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wAqMmhrvOw
Stupid Youtube link instead of the real thing (which does exist!) because I could not find it any more :(

Good to know there are other folks with these crazy ideas out there, Z-man. And yeah, raph123, it'd be cockpit. That way it becomes somewhat analagous to trawling a dungeon, which you do as a first person too. No top down view to help you find the treasure there, and I'm not sure how you could write a text description of it either.

Cockpit, that's what it's called. Would there still be acceleration and holes?

Sine these are really cool. I think the MCP is really adorable in its simplicity, just like it was in the film haha

raph, I have no idea. I really haven't thought it through fully as it's not something I ever really planned on writing. A quick thought says no holes and no acceleration though. That feels like something too complex for a text based adventure.
