Ridiculously over-dramatic, closed after 1:30.

I don't feel like he's being overdramatic, rather expressing his past experiences metaphorically. I really don't see how you can overdramatize something that is already a serious issue. I would expect you, of all people, to be more sensitive to the message of this video.sinewav wrote:Ridiculously over-dramatic, closed after 1:30.

Re: Porkchop
'cause sinewav gets bullied a lot. I must admit, it's just too easy to make fun of his color on Tron.Tazmania wrote:I don't feel like he's being overdramatic, rather expressing his past experiences metaphorically. Cyber-bullying = First world problems. Kids having a burn-out with 15 because some random people make fun of their picture, it's just ridiculous.
In my opinion, it gets serious when you cannot use Command+q to get rid of the bullies anymore. And this clearly isn't the case here.

Re: Porkchop
Pyrrhic, I'm sure you're familiar with broken's post on that tron gossip tumblr. Don't you feel like that's a little too far?
EDIT:
On that note, I do know the people involved on that tumblr. At least two involved don't outwardly act like they do on that blog. If you're going to have the audacity to be a "bully" online, why hide your persona under a mask. I recommend shutting down the website or putting your tron name there so people know it's you who are attacking them. Posting anonymously on a blog like that is cowardly in my opinion.

Re: Porkchop
The video itself is quite professionally made, even a little too "look-at-me-I'm-creative" for my taste.
Concerning the rest, I think bullying is a serious problem. Yeah, people crying their heart out on the internet is one side, but sharing photos or videos that were made without consent is another, especially if they are humiliating. I wouldn't even consider tron-gossip a good example; what really hurts a person is when their whole class has a forum to mock somebody. It's a first world problem, but that doesn't mean it's unimportant. The problem with cyberbullying is that you can't really defend yourself anymore. It's ideal for a coward, because he remains anonymous; once your whole private matters are online, it usually stays there and it can influence the whole rest of your life. In the past someone just hit you with his fists and you could return the favor and kick his ass; students committed suicide because of the school pressure, not because of other students.
That being said, I don't think this video is going to help anyone. At best it'll remind the victims that they're not alone.
However, if it gets viral and people are kind just because it's 'cool', that's sort of insincere, don't you think? The result is as dumb as that of the Kony video. Everyone should know that bullying is stupid without a video, and that most people suffer from it while few actually defend themselves isn't new either. Keep in mind that all bullying victims are different - some can stand it, others can't. This doesn't mean it's OK to harass the not-so-wimpy ones.
What I strongly disliked about the video was the "THEY ARE WRONG"-part. Sometimes it's delusional to ignore one's own fallacies.

@ Word:
Like Amanda Todd. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ej7afkypUsc
I'd say this is a prime example.
@Cody and Kivic: Didn't even watch it when I wrote that post. The name seemed funny. Just watched it now though (didn't finish), and it isn't nearly as moving as other bullying stories I've heard. Maybe it's the music.

Re: Porkchop
@Tazzy: I'd never do such a post.
Maybe this whole topic isn't familiar enough to me. Where I come from I've never seen any cyber-bullying. I do have seen people (good friends too) getting bullied in school and afterwards, and that still bothers me.
I've always kept the internet separated from my feelings as well as my life. I probably underestimate this whole topic due to my lacking experience with it, so I won't start discussing anything. I will handle this topic more carefully in the future. Maybe it'll make more sense to me one day.

Re: Porkchop
you can't put feelings aside, we're all human beings and even if you say it doesn't some stuff bothers you. Cyber bullying is real, and it's annoying, and it has to stop. That case on the video and others should be taken seriously because that's how people feel about it. If you don't care you'll eventually tell your kids "get over it".

Not just this community. Internet and gaming culture at large—people being anti-intellectual, antisocial, narcissistic, nihilistic, sociopathic, sadistic, even psychopathic by choice. This is what results when your value system boils down to "doing it for teh lulz."Gonzap wrote:Wow this community has become a bunch of heartless pricks.
There's also one particularly blatant, obscene example of massive hypocrisy in this thread. We all know who it is.
