Ladle: Global Moderators

Post by sinewav »

After the lack of feedback in the Ladle 66 thread, I've decided to give this topic it's own thread. The idea is to finally implement Global Moderators, a role we envisioned a couple years ago that never took shape.

Here is the post from the Ladle thread, followed by the proposed changes below. The idea is to extend the capabilities of server owners who already have these responsibilities in their own Ladle servers to the other servers as well. This should make Ladles run smoother and faster and be less frustrating in the event of a crash.

On the wiki: Ladle/Operations. -- Rewrite the Global Moderator description.
A Global Moderator is a server owner/player who acts as a subordinate to Team Leaders. In case of a mid-match server crash, a GM may be called upon to set the previous score using the SLAP <-x player> command. Global Moderators may also be called upon to /OP <7 player> Team Leaders who lack proper authority. A GM may be called upon to kick a spectator to make room for teammate who can't get into a full server. And in some cases, a GM might silence a spectator who is clearly harassing Team Members. GM's can only act at the request of both Team Leaders. They have no authority to interfere in a match in any way. They hold no powers of judgement. They are purely assistants.
On the wiki: Ladle/Challenge Board. -- Add a list of Global Moderators.

...
Currently, the above will be the current owner/players: Jip, noob13, sinewav, zero. I guess Z-Man and kyle can be in there too, but I think Z-man is always admin, right? :D The GM's can be compared to Super Leaders in Brawl, which had an overwhelmingly positive impact on that game.

In ladle.cfg -- Add the following:

Code: Select all

ACCESS_LEVEL SLAP 2
This will be the first update since L-49.

Come Ladle time, GM's will be given level 2 authority. And pretty much that is it. This is a very small change that should have a big impact on those rare occasions we need it.

Looks good. I can remember a couple of occasions in which I was asked to help moderate non-rZ Ladle servers and could not.

tl;dr: existing ladle server admins will have admin

I'd argue that there is no moderation here & change it to global administrators

Yeah I thought about that, but I'm really into recycling. However, GM's won't have all the abilities an administrator would, they will be level-2 authority -- which I think it good. While I want things to run smoothly between all servers, I don't necessarily want to give someone full level-1 auth on my servers if it's not necessary. We can come up with a new name and make it level-6 for all I care, but that would be more work.

Can't see any reason to disagree with it.

Done. Wiki has been edited to reflect the new position and a section added to the Challenge Board. Let's hope the servers prove to us we don't need extra help.

I think /admin slap is access_level 1 by default, should we change that to 2 in the ladle config so that GM's can help set the scores right after a crash?
