Re: Funny Tron Moments
Yes Roter, my settings really do suck badly and even with everything turned off my FPS can drop heavily. However, soon I will be getting a new computer so I will finally be able to play this game with good FPS, even with some better graphics.

Re: Funny Tron Moments
Um, 45 is not a low framerate. Any numbers above the refresh rate of your monitor are meaningless. Film is usually run at 24 frames per second. The human eye (brain) is only capable of perceiving about 60 fps.
Back before 0.2.8 was released, I played with all graphics off/down and with a much lower framerate than that, lucky to max out in the mid-20's. Apparently there was some SDL thingamabob that made it perform poorly on Macs, which dlh corrected for 0.2.8. That said, when 0.2.8 was released and my framerate went up it was like easy mode got turned on.
Incidentally, I found back then that using a regular high rim performed better than the low rim.
Also, I taught b3n everything he knows back in Shrunkland. He even stole my color!

Re: Funny Tron Moments
Missing the point.
40 fps has choppy gameplay, whereas my client with 500+ fps has smoother gameplay than anyone who plays below 60fps.

Recognizing and acknowledging the point, while making a couple related comments. I do not find 45 video game frames per second choppy. I do not find framerate in the hundreds smoother. I think you're deluding yourself.
Re: Funny Tron Moments
You both have a point, which I shall explain here.
Vogue/Liz is right in that when you have low FPS in Arma, your computer is being pushed beyond it's capabilities and so you also suffer from some kind of low IPS (Inputs Per Second) or whatever you want to call it. This massively affects gameplay, making it very choppy and unresponsive. This occurs when the framerate drops below that of your monitor/graphics card, or around that mark.
Phytotron is right in that a framerate above the refresh rate of your monitor/graphics card is pointless. Incidentally I use a CRT monitor which refreshes at 75Hz so anything above 75 FPS would be pointless. This is why some games (and Arma in newer versions I believe) allow you to lock the FPS to the rate of the monitor/graphics card.

Re: Funny Tron Moments
There is actually a point to exceeding your refresh rate, up to a limit. When you have something like video, vertical sync (the purpose of which is to avoid drawing pixels that will never be seen, and to prevent tearing) at 60 Hz is excellent. On the other hand, video games require interaction, and there it makes a perceptible difference. The loop is simply not as tight. The worst offender is a filled-up graphics pipeline, though, so do try it with one of the finish swap modes.
If you play without vertical sync, keep in mind that there are diminishing returns as you climb ever higher above your refresh rate. If anything, it's just an indicator of headroom. If you become GPU-bound the pipeline can even fill up again, although an n-frame delay isn't as bad when those frames are really short. Yeah, and the waste is just ugly.

I came up with some more band names (Ping, Stewart Durkadurkaland and Laggy Summers, Tank Sinatra, Grind Faith, Joni Glitchell, Ping Floyd...), but this was the first and best. Feel free to continue this list.

X-man is actually one of my favorite Marvel characters. Never really got why he's called X-man (his name is Nate Grey) since it sounds really similar to X-men.Bytes wrote:'X-man' seems a bit general...
I have something like 800 screenshots on my pc, lol. I'll look through it for funny ones
