Elections 2012 [third-party candidate option added]
Re: Elections 2012 [third-party candidate option added]
OH the irony of a self-proclaimed artist calling another field useless. Hilarious.
By experience I meant knowledge, clearly. And yeah I am a bit ashamed at my lack of work in my field, however when your summers are filled up interning at places like Mathworks and Raytheon you don't have much time left.
Note: it seems i can't add sinewav to my "foes" list because he's a moderator? Is there any way around this? Had no problem with Phytotron. I've never used this feature before.

Not self-proclaimed at all, but an actual title I had and a field I made a living from for 12 years. However, I agree art is useless,* and that's why I don't pursue it as a career any more. There are way more interesting things out there, like mechanical engineering (which of course is an art in itself).-*inS*- wrote:OH the irony of a self-proclaimed artist calling another field useless. No, not clearly. They aren't the same thing. But thanks for clarifying. I'll let you go back to patting yourself on the back some more. Don't break your arm.-*inS*- wrote:By experience I meant knowledge, clearly.

*in some contexts.

The stuff that corrupts the art market isn't even art. In 50 years (or earlier), maybe people like you can sell their abundant, tasteless, inexpressive forum signatures based on some prefabricated kitsch there. Real useless art: A clown painting in a doctor's waiting room, propaganda for a totalitarian system, commercials that aren't broadcasted, commercials for products which don't need a commercial. That's all I can think of.insanity wrote:OH the irony of a self-proclaimed artist calling another field useless

Ins: If you're going to put people who disagree with you on your ignore list, you might as well not try to discuss things. What use is it discussing if all you want to get is confirmation, confirmation, confirmation?

And yet roughly half of American economists surveyed agree with their conclusions. So....-*inS*- wrote:Didn't even bother to read the rest of your post after you cited Card&Krueger
So you're taking philosophy twice over, then. Remember what I said about economics making astrology look good? Economics is not a hard science. It is as much a philosophy. What's ridiculous is that people in this country understand that almost intuitively when it comes to, say, communism or socialism (not that they know the difference between the two), deriding each as mere political ideologies, with the common refrain, "good in theory, terrible in practice." And yet, laissez faire capitalism is treated as though it's simply the de facto natural order of things, that studying it is like studying physics or geology. Baloney.-*inS*- wrote:...and Economics (and a philosophy minor!)....
So, by making the denunciation you did, you not only demonstrated, but I think unwittingly admitted that. You didn't like that someone disagreed with your sacred cow, refuse to acknowledge its flaws, and so simply damn and dismiss the heretics.
But yeah, instead of rebutting anything, just spam "lol" and run away with your ball and hide behind an enemies list (and make a big point of announcing it, too). Still a snotty, trolly teenager, you.

The arts are anything but useless. Not only are they culturally vital and a major part of what make life worth living (and why isn't that enough to justify their existence?), but are great economic drivers. Arts education produces more creative workers in any field, as well as people who can actually appreciate and later become consumers of the arts. That then feeds all sorts of ancillary businesses. It's just that the arts tend not to be profitable in and of themselves for the artists, except for those rare cases of someone really breaking through. This is why public arts funding is so crucial. But right-wingers bash that, and idiotically so when you consider the return on the investment—the National Endowment for the Arts returns $7 in tax revenue for every $1 spent.

Most intriguing the study of Economics. Macroeconomics, the study of the big stuff and Microeconomics the study of the little stuff not only have little correlation, but logically conflict with one another. I think Max Keiser, a former trader and inventor of some of the automated trading software now in use, now financial analyst/reporter said it best:

The pediatrics office I went to was filled with CYRK posters, both in the waiting room areas as well as in the exam rooms. I scoured that site for any I might remember, but only found three that I am sure of: It's possible, then, that there was some other such art there, not specifically Cyrk. I don't recall them frightening me at all, but as you can imagine by looking at them, they made for a rather surreal experience, amplified by the fact that I usually had a pretty good fever when we went in there.Word wrote:There was a study which showed that children who are confronted with (bad) clown paintings in a waiting room are more frightened of the procedure that they're waiting for.
In addition, one of my grandfathers was a Shriner, so we always got free tickets to the Kosair Shrine Circus. So from the time I was a baby I was attending that annually, and both family and photos attest to how amazed by it all that I was. Of course, I now understand that the use of animals in circuses is f'ing cruel and should be banned. Cirque du Soleil is a truly fantastic alternative.
At my childhood dentist, the entire examination room was done up like a brightly colored circus, complete with a mobile over the chair. He jammed rock'n'roll from a radio, too. It was awesome.
And then there's this masterpiece. ACK!

These attachments look so much like Heinz Edelmann's work for Yellow Submarine (and pretty much everything else he did). I got one of his books with an autograph (shortly before he died...)! Well, I wouldn't even call them bad compared to this:

I'm afraid I can't find any that are as bad as the ones from my memory, but here's one [edit: second attachment] I did for my animation some weeks ago (well, except that the hair of the one I remembered most was blue):

Heh, here ya go. Note Bozo the Clown. I didn't have any of these specifically, but I did have a kid-size inflatable punching bag, and I think I recall it had some kind of clown on it, but maybe not. Oh man, the springs on those suckers! You'd get going (gotta love the squeaking sound) and invariably fall off and get a bit of your skin caught between the expanded springs. Pain! Or you'd get a piece of clothing caught in one and pull the whole thing over on top of you. You'll notice all the modern ones now have coverings over the springs, heh. But for decades, pain!

pff, plagiarist.
What do you think of the unreleased tax returns that were supposedly stolen?

Not sure why I haven't replied to Phytotron's post earlier (no time perhaps..)...those Punch-Me's are great of course. I wouldn't even dare to touch them.
