How to lock server so that only certain people can enter

You can probably just stick with the method of adjusting max_clients so that the server always appears as "full". When a member wants to join, he tells you at irc or whatever and you set max_clients to the current number of players + 1. When he joins, the server is full again. When the wrong one joins, kick. When someone leaves, lower that number by 1. Alternatively set max_clients to 2 whenever no one wants to join so that when someone leaves you don't have to adjust the number. People already playing aren't affected. Poor man's server locker that is.

You could just change one setting during practices. ACCESS_LEVEL_PLAY 10 during practices. Then, assuming you give USER_LEVEL clanmembername@forums 10 in your config, only clan members will be able to play. You can kick anybody that isn't a clan member. That way, if you are short people for a practice, and others show up you can always /op username 10 anybody that comes in if you want to let them play. I have found that during practices, constantly adjusting MAX_CLIENTS just makes it a lot slower to get clan members into the server to play, which kinda sucks.
