"Experience Recommended"
Firstly, I love the changes in .4. I noticed you guys did add the server name at the top of the tron window like I suggested a little ways back.
A problem I noticed is when the server list is loaded, instead of the ping, number of users, and score showing, the phrase "Experience Recommended" is displayed. If I arrow down to a server, it'll still give me the server info/url/current players but it won't display them in any order.
What is this "Experience Recommended" thing? Do I need to visit all of those servers to give myself some "experience" in them?

Re: "Experience Recommended"
it means you need to play locally a bit in order to have enough experience to allow it to recommend those servers to play in.
you can change that but I'm too lazy to look it up, but play some of the tutorials should gain you enough experience for that to go away.

Re: "Experience Recommended"
ok, thank you.
Re: "Experience Recommended"
I have seen this too, and I hope that somewhere there's an option to turn it off.
If I (not meaning a new user) just installed Armagetron, I just want to go look at the server list, not mess with tutorials for five minutes!

Re: "Experience Recommended"
edit the user.cfg file. A menu option will show you the file.

Re: "Experience Recommended"
I guess I can just set PLAY_TIME_TOTAL to something high then.

No. If you read through the user.cfg file, you will see that each tutorial/challenge can be manually set to having been completed.

Is there something stopping me from toggling completed/not completed in user.cfg?kyle wrote:Incorrect

Re: "Experience Recommended"
I set play_time_total to 200 and i worked for me.
I think that feature should be turned off though. I don't think playing in a local game will do anything. What is the minimum play time?

Re: "Experience Recommended"
it is supposed to help beginners make wise choices as the enter the online play. For the older tronners here it is kind of a nuance, but does not take all that long to fix.

Re: "Experience Recommended"
I feel silly, an older experimental client worked the way I described... I have found that working through all the challenges has improved the precision of my turns. Also, since the incam works so much better in .4, I am thinking about making a multi-mode incam server. I really do like incam.

Re: "Experience Recommended"
There's going to be two things:
1. If an old .cfg file from a previous version is found when the new version is run for the first time, it's going to pretend you already completed the tutorials and served some time.
2. There will be a FAQ entry telling veterans to go to the console and include some config file that does the above if the automatism fails or they install it on a new PC/account.
The automatism will fail for future snapshots if you ran some previous snapshot, of course. The previous snapshot created the new config file without checking the old one. It may work once 0.4 enters beta and gets rebranded for it, though.

Re: "Experience Recommended"
I think the "score" could be replaced with "tags" so servers could add short tags to it and eventually a filter could be set up. #fortress, #sumo, #highrubber, etc #authenabled, #beginners , #hard , #moderate, etc, etc. Sometimes when you just want to see full servers with a specific mode, this would be great.
EDIT: Also what happened to FONT_SIZE_FACTOR? How do you edit the font size now?

Re: "Experience Recommended"
what kyle said (play_time_total). But that didn't help me to get those center messages away, and to mark all tutorials as "finished", the complete_all_tutorials (or whatever it is named) doesn't work. For the rest I needed to type the individual command.
