Google AdWords, Armagetron?

Post by sinewav »

This is time sensitive. I just received a $100 gift from my hosting company towards Google AdWords to be used before the end of this month. I don't know anything about AdWords, nor do I have anything to promote. I will, however, use the entire balance to promote Armagetron if someone wants to share their AdWords experience with me.

From what I understand, I'll need a headline (25 char max), some copy, and a list of keywords. I think they want a physical address too, but I'm not sure.

To decide what keywords, you will want to do some basic keyword research. The simplest way to do this is to use the Google AdWords: Keyword Tool. This tool will let you enter keywords, show you the local and global (local being the country you are in) search volume, average clicks per day, and cost. You may want to play with different combinations of words, to optimize your budget. There are other free tools that can make the process quicker when searching out specific market niches, but you do still need to plug keywords into the Google AdWords: Keyword tool. I spent just a little time looking at keyphrases, and I will say that for the vast majority of searches with the keyword "tron", the armagetronad.net site ranks in the top 10, and in many cases in the top 3. So, the challenge will be to find appropriate keyphrases that armagetronad.net does not rank on the first page for, but are appropriate.

You can get into legal trouble for using trademarked terms for your adwords, just saying. I'd pick words that are borderline relevant. As compguygene says, relevant search terms give already good results in the search, no need to improve on those.

I guess what I'm looking for is someone to do all the work for me, haha. I have no interest in marketing. I'll take a look at the AdWords website later today maybe and see if it's something I can do on my own (writing copy, picking keywords).

the question I'm asking myself is, what do people search for when they really want something like armagetron instead?

Haha, nice.

I'm surprised I haven't heard more contributions for the panicking masses in that other thread. Here I am looking to put actual time and money into advertising to increase the player base and I don't even care about promotion... So does anyone want to write an advertisement and offer up some keyword suggestions? I was hoping to make this a group project. C'mon guys, I know it's not a lot of advertising money but it's at least something more than nothing. Golden opportunity here. Gol-den.

If not, I'll just turn this over to Luke-jr and advertise his hosting or something.

There might be approximately 10 different terms used in the itunes store that people use. Snakes, Light Bike, etc... I'll look them up later and get back to you if that interests.

On another unrelated note... Am I slow to learn about this page or the first? See what Google has profiled you as and opt out of doubleclick.. a strange way..

How about we not actively encourage that.

Exactly. Plus, Armagetron isn't designed as an educational game and I would feel dishonest promoting it as such. (I know 2020 sees Arma as a great tool in a social-learning, team-building environment; and while I see some truth and possibilities this game is not packaged as such now is it?)

Well then, since we already have that demographic thoroughly covered, how about we focus on others?

I spent a little time doing some keyword research.

"free multiplayer online games" seemed to be a good one to look at. There are no google adwords coming up on this keyword phrase, but it gets 165,000 Global Monthly Searches, and 74,000 Local (USA) searches. Given that no Google Ads are coming up on this, you can probably win a bid with a very low Cost Per Click. Also, Armagetron is not really represented in the organic search results.

Possible ad text copy.
