Re: What are you listening to right now?
I take it you missed Puff Daddy's version, with Page's participation?

Don't hate the player, hate the entire clan.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Dude, Led Zeppelin were always sellouts. For one, a great deal of their music is pinched—and I don't just mean "strongly influenced." I mean straight rip-offs of specific tunes or lyrics. No matter, Colonialists making bank on African American product. Which leads to the second point, which is that they epitomised '70s commercial rock'n'roll excess and decadence. Huge arena concerts, mega merch, renting out entire hotel floors, a friggin' private jet, along with all manner of conspicuous, lavish spending. Read up, bub. This is well-known. I'm surprised you're surprised.Clutch wrote:Lame. Sounds like a sellout now.

I wasn't born in the 70's (unfortunately), and Led Zeppelin isn't my faveourite, so I don't really know much about them. It's surprising because I always seem to hear how they were pioneers, and how great of a guitarist Page was

Re: What are you listening to right now?
OK, so, I don't think I've clicked on a single link in this topic (and in so doing resisted negative commentary, for the most part—give me credit for that), and certainly posting something related to Rihanna wasn't about to change that trend. But when you said, "If you're a musician, you gotta check this out," I figured, OK, I guess I'll see what it is. Why? Why? Why did you do that to me? Why does that exist? Good lord, man, that was awful. Sorry, I don't see what's worth advertising there—to anyone, let alone musicians. And if listening to it wasn't torturous enough, looking at it was every bit as cringing. I have an intense desire to dump green slime all over that bassist. Or perhaps more appropriately, hot, soapy water. Maybe a bath, then slime, then another bath, and a buzzcut.
(And the youtube commentary is typically moronic and clueless.)

They're very good though.
(& the youtube comments don't have anything substancial to add to the song/video, do they ever?)
I also don't see how their haircuts or clothes have anything to do with it, they don't disturb me anyway. I guess the lyrics is the one thing that disturbs me, but I've successfully tried to ignore them. I don't like the pop of today (Rihanna, Lady Gaga etc), but it's nice when people do something creative with it, especially when they're really skilled musicians.
It's fair that you don't like this because of your taste, but aren't you going a bit far saying "Sorry, I don't see what's worth advertising there—to anyone, let alone musicians". They're very talented and bringing something good by putting a twist on the mainstream (correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Rihanna is rather mainstream?) music. And as with most music, it takes a while and a few listens before you start to like something that isn't like something you already like.
While we're at it, here's a Lady Gaga cover as well
Just Dance.
I didn't like his voice at first, and there's a lot of sound coming from his keyboard.. takes a while to take it all in. I like the bass playing, but tbh I think the drummer is the sharper one in this trio. So so so sooo tight.
Most importantly though, they're just playing around & having fun with music.
