Silent Rule on pickup server
Re: Silent Rule on pickup server
Since I only occasionally play pickup you may think my opinion is no good, or it could be really good because I'm like a 3rd party. One of the reasons I didn't enjoy pickup before was because I hardly saw it different than Mega Fort. Same people joking around and the play wasn't serious. But with this silence rule enabled I noticed a change in the atmosphere immediately. It did feel more serious and I liked it a lot. In fact, the couple times I played in silence were the most exciting matches in pickup I ever played. I felt like I got what I "expected" for the first time. Sure it was frustrating not being able to compliment someone for a job well done, but I felt it was a small price to pay for a better experience.
Re: Silent Rule on pickup server
Agreed.
I was there the match Jip enabled it and within that match even there was a significant change in game play... That was the strongest reason we had to keep it. Finally pickup became what we had been trying to make it since day one. I don't understand why people can't come to terms with this, is it really worth sacrificing a great game of fort to be able to talk crap with the other team? =S
Honestly, I'll say this; chat has been re-enabled, but don't see that as an excuse to use chat excessively because it's there. It'd be nice if players would still talk in /team for the most part and keep chat game related; It makes for a better pickup experience and for happier admins, after all we don't enjoy arguing with players, silencing the server should serve as proof of this =P
Please, just re-read the rules everybody, so as to avoid this kind of bs in the future.

Re: Silent Rule on pickup server
I've played pickup a good amount of times and have always seen it was more serious than Mega Fort. Mega Fort is casual fort. Casual fort is never serious and full of bloopers.
Pickup has always been serious, at least when I play.
When someone dies and says "LOL, almost got ya you lucky bastard!". That makes it look a little fun and not serious.
When someone dies and nothing is said, it looks a little more serious huh?
Looks can be deceiving.
Pickup is way more serious than casual fort, with chat enabled or not.

I don't post to cause an argument, I do because I feel like. I was gonna post something else, but right because I don't want to argue, let's end this here.

Trash talking has always been intrinsic to competitive gaming, ever since counter-strike, starcraft, unreal, quake, doom, MUD, or whatever your first multiplayer online game was...
I believe the Wikipedia article on this subject is particularly apt.
Also, if someone is really annoying you, consider ASKING them to stop. Although this will probably just lead to MORE trash talk

Did you ever stop trolling just because somebody asked you to do so? I don't think soSithy wrote:Also, if someone is really annoying you, consider ASKING them to stop. Although this will probably just lead to MORE trash talk, I'm just saying...

Re: Silent Rule on pickup server
IMO, the problem there isn't really so much trash talking as it is(was) people going into conversation+autopilot mode.
