It's not about making it easier, it's about making it funnier.
The point in defending is to not give the attackers a chance to cut them.

And by funnier, do you mean more fun?
Fixed!

@Gonzap: It's competitive play, it's not meant to be easy. Also, if you want to stand a chance of making a good cut or killing sweepers, get better.

Stop whining about the ladle turning into some boring campfest. It's not. The Fortress Cafe Tournament did encourage the safer, defensive style of play due to the settings being the way they are. The ladle is entirely different. Sure people play carefully and try to stay alive, but no one has utilized a sweepbox style of play in the ladle in awhile. The most recent attempts at it have ultimately failed in helping the team win. The last few ladles have been won by teams who have been aggressive in their attacking, with a normal style of sweeping, and defenses that have not used step defs or hidden a ridiculous amount behind their tail. In my experience, the ladle has been growing more aggressive, as attackers are growing more aggressive and there are even a larger amount of cuts. Sure teams decide to do a quick hole in the beginning of some of the rounds to keep their opponents on their feet, but most of the time it is an aggressive battle between defense and offense. I know that Tx has used a normal left-right sweeping style, as well as a defense who stays close enough to the end of his tail to expand and allow the option of an aggressive play against attackers. Our attackers focus on attacking, killing sweepers, and sometimes cutting the defense before the sweepers were even dead. We only holed once we had gained a large man advantage, 5v2, Xv1, or something similar. You can't complain about people playing aggressively to gain an advantage in the round and then holing to end it. I disagree with all your complaints about the ladle becoming boring without any attacking or cuts. There's sufficient evidence in the last few ladles to prove that the ladle isn't turning into some boring campfest. I think the time for tactics to have a huge influence on who wins the ladle is starting to end. Unless something comes up with something really revolutionary, the teams with the most skill and aggressiveness are going to keep winning the ladle.

Like Mecca said, if you want to "stand a chance" (what a stupid thing to say, everyone stands a chance imo) then get better.

Also, if you remember in the old days there were a few strong teams and there were a dozen weak teams who never got past the first round. Nowadays you never know who's gonna win because even weak teams can win against strong ones with great tactics, so I'd say fortress has improved in that aspect. If you want to compare it to football and say tactics and teamwork mean less than individual skill........... I don't know what sport you're watching.

Point is, the average skill got higher and it's not easy to win anymore no matter what the reasons are. I think some of the old players can't stand that. ;)
