I just told me dad about this RIGHT now before I saw this topic.

The New York Mets - Phillies game broadcaster told us.

Beat me to it :P

Oh, my thoughts.

About time.

So why exactly didn't Bush use him as intended then? Why leave it up to a Democrat successor?

In general there's some suprisingly good discussion going on there too, which is where I heard the news. As for world effect, it's not likely something will change instantly, but it will be part of change like any other event.

Whenever I heard "terrorism" I had the face of Bin Laden in my mind's eye. Now it's an impersonal, unknown threat for me. Perhaps the taliban lost their leading figure and it will really mark the beginning of the organization's end. Otherwise there will be new Bin Ladens.
I read that the CIA (and Leon Panetta) watched the entire operation per live stream. It seems to me that wars become more and more like video games...(that's an observation, not criticism. I know that remote controlled drones and the broadcasting of shootouts for strategic purposes can save lives. it's not amoral for me as long as it's not uploaded on youtube.)

As long as Osama was alive, it made it easier to justify wars that America has no business starting. However, notice that Osama's death is trotted out now, just a short time after the world media has openly admitted that the United States is partnered with Al-Quaeda in Libya. The current leader of Al-Quaeda met with DOD officials about a month ago. I and many others believe that Al-Quaeda is just another CIA asset.
