I consider that a bit harsh, and if z-man agrees I'd like to unban him. The issue to me isn't posting the news, it's everyone else tearing into him for it. If you don't care don't read it, but it's all in one place, not bothering anyone (if you'd just ignore it), and fixit has had some other contribution to the community.Lucifer wrote:(I already re-banned fixit)

Re: The NEWS, FFIIXXIITT style
It is now after we merged it. I myself wouldn't have banned him, but it's certainly true he's not making many friends with his postings, so I say a limited ban is for his own good. I wouldn't mind seeing it shortened, though.Tank Program wrote:but it's all in one place

I asked him to put it one thread and merged it, but after that he stuck to it. Ban reduced.Z-Man wrote:It is now after we merged it. It was a "cool off a bit" sort of ban, where I picked a month because that's what he got last time. No arguments with a reduced ban.Tank Program wrote:Ban reduced.

US jobless claims stick above 400,000

The number of people claiming unemployment benefit stayed above 400,000 for the second week in a row, according to the latest US labour department figures.
First-time claims for jobless benefits did fall by 13,000 to 403,000 in the week ending April 13, down from from an upwardly revised 416,000 the week before. However the reduction was smaller than economists had predicted and kept claims above the closely-watched 400,000 level, following the previous week’s surprise rise to the highest level in nearly two months. The less-volatile four-week moving average rose slightly to 399,000.
“We’ve now seen two straight weeks above 400,000,” said Conrad DeQuadros of RDQ Economics, but he argued that that the longer term trend was a better measure of the state of the labour market than the volatile weekly figures.

Two security researchers have discovered that Apple’s iPhone keeps track of a user’s location and saves that information to a file that is stored both on the device and on a user’s computer when they sync or back it up in iTunes.
The researchers, Pete Warden and Alasdair Allan, discovered the hidden file while collaborating on a potential data visualization project. “At first we weren’t sure how much data was there, but after we dug further and visualised the extracted data, it became clear that there was a scary amount of detail on our movements,” Warden told The Guardian.
You can watch Allan and Warden’s discussion about the data and how it can be surfaced in this video:

Re: The NEWS, FFIIXXIITT style
Hah, actually I personally looked at that earlier today. It appears to be the Location Services database. It contains WiFi networks and cell towers that have been used for geolocation, or were nearby enough to be cached. That makes the initial fix really fast if it's near where you used geolocation before, and allows it to work without an internet connection or GPS. Not so mysterious, although it does leave a bit of a footprint.FFIIXXIITT wrote:iPhone Secretly Tracks and Reports Where You Go
If you want to complain about anything, it should be that to use geolocation, you send nearby networks to Apple over the internet. If GPS is available, you're even sending GPS coordinates to improve the database of networks. That's where the contents of the cache came from in the first place. Cell providers also keep track of where you've been. Of all these things, the discovery of the particular local file where the information is cached is the only news.
Really, if you care about this and don't just follow buzzwords in the media, you've boycotted Apple or disabled Location Services already. Not to say I like how this works, but it amazes me how people get hysterical when they have no clue what it's about, and when worse things are already known.

Re: The NEWS, FFIIXXIITT style
Nicely put, I personally don’t own a cell phone at all for I never really liked being that available if you know what I mean. Also, if I understand you correctly, there is a way to block these files that the legal terms protect. This is great but most people will let this software remain on their computers. Yes, on their computers; when one synchronizes their iphone they copy the files onto your computer. Maby though, just maby; we will decide that we don’t like apple recording our every move down to 3 or 4 ft of possible error. My only concern today is the kids responsible for the pipe bomb in Littleton's mall. I hope they put their energy twords something good in stead of hate and violence. The rest is just news and up for discussion so be free to debunk any false news for the sake of all of the readers of this thread.

I don't know you man, but I'd be willing to bet your life would improve drastically if you stopped allowing yourself to be a casualty of the very info-wars you vehemently represent. Don't you see that you're actually a victim? Imagine your life without the internet... I'm down with questioning the overabundance of digital stimuli and misinformation we're all bombarded with everyday, but you seem to have voluntarily diseased your mind and are overly sensitive.
