Jeopardy: Same Name-> Cologne, Germany!

T_T Obviously that's not actually what you meant; I wasn't serious. The point was that you are being ridiculous. His name was posted online, that's it. Learn to put things in proper perspective.sinewav wrote:Lord Pein wrote:And so you are basically saying that since Spin brought up this kids name saying he was from Germany and was wondering if anyone knew him, he can no longer get a job?Wow, you really do have a reading comprehension problem. I imagine both of your jobs involve following pictographs.

Re: Germany!
Cologne comes from Colonia, the latin word for, umm, settlement. It was the first part of its first name, as it started out as a roman settlement in occupied Germania. Obviously not the full name, just the bit that stuck. It's sort of the reverse of Pratchet's Naming Principle: he imagined a lot of mountains bear names like "That's a mountain, you strange ignorant person" in the local native tongue because explorers determined it by grabbing locals, pointing at things and writing down what they said as best as they could.
Hnnnnnngggggghhh. Don't make me kill you.INW wrote:I think maybe it is named after cologne, the body spray stuff?
Re: Germany!
Cologne is far more than "body spray stuff".
This is body spray:

The most common type of cologne is "Eau de Toilette", like this (pour homme means for men):

Common cologne, such as eau de toilette, contains anywhere from 5% - 15% (mostly 10%) of the concentration of aromatic compounds in a solvent (typically ethanol, or water and ethanol). Body spray contains almost none.
Body spray often does not contain natural ingredients, like cologne. Aqua de Gio, for example contains ingredients such as lavender, juniper, cumin. Ingredients for axe body spray are: Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorohydrex, Cyclopentasiloxane, PPG-14 butylether, to name a few. Those don't seem too natural. Cologne has fragrance notes. There are three different stages, which lead to the climax, the "base note". This note brings depth and substance to cologne, which is often recognized 30 minutes after application. Idk why I am typing and researching this, I just found it interesting.

Regardless of all that (especially the cologne stuff), and how you naively feel about it personally, you still should not post someone else's name without their permission.

You don't get it, kid. It's not your decision to make. It's his.

Technically it came from google, but numerous resources. I learned much more about cologne, like to wear a spicy scent for clubbing, or wood (a traditional scent) in the winter, because citrus' odor is brought out by body warmth.

Re: Germany!
I just prefer to stay clean.
(All sorts of bad things associated with cologne and perfume, too, but I'll leave that be.)

Re: Germany!
Some girls like the smell. Fewer than you may think. And probably not the right ones, anyway.
Besides (ok, I'm going to go there a little bit), you really think animals should suffer so you can wear a superficial, artificial, chemical scent?

Re: Germany!
The right girl loves your natural smell (provided you keep clean enough to *have* a natural smell, nobody likes a body that smells like shit, pee, or other things).

Re: Germany!
He's 100% right. Your natural smell will resonate with someone in a much more powerful way than an artificial one. Without going into too much detail, an ex-girlfriend and I had a conversation a few years after our break-up and we both admitted one of the things we missed most about the other was the way we smelled. Something about it strongly contributed to our (sometimes unhealthy) bond, and this "scent-bond" was missing from our other relationships. Your olfactory sensors wind through the brain before reaching the thalamus (your main input/output), which is something the other senses don't do.Lucifer wrote:The right girl loves your natural smell...
Smell is extremely important, so do you best to smell "good" without smelling "artificial" or fake. It makes a difference.
Re: Germany!
and moving on to the subject of germany, ladies..
