The TRON League

Post by Concord »

This is and will remain the only armagetronad forum thread regarding the TRON League.

The TRON League will be a competitive league that runs almost continuously. The settings are not default Armagetron settings, but they are close, a preliminary tronleague.cfg is attached. We set out for the settings to be pure, they are somewhat similar to those in the movie clip, we don't force incam though.

•The TRON League consists of 3v3 matches, teams can have up to 4 players on their roster at any one time, though players can be dropped and added and switch teams throughout the season.
•A List of every player's GID is maintained by the League operators. You will need to be on that list to be able to play. This is a measure against smurfing and against ringers. This list will be updated weekly as players are added and dropped.
•The TRON League is rolling, teams may join in at any time and the season starts as soon as two teams sign up. After a number of weeks to be determined, the top quarter of the teams enter a playoff bracket to determine a season winner.
•Games will be short, just one match, (estimated time around 10-20 minutes). Teams will play 1-2 matches a week, probably Friday nights or Saturdays.

Hopefully players from every corner of the Armagetron Advanced server list will participate. This tournament is aimed at involving anyone who has picked up the game, there's nothing complicated about it. So spread the word.

What we need:
Servers! We are looking for 1 US and 1 EU server. Our requirements are not large, 10-16 slots is great, and as low as 7 can work. What we would like is score logs. We are looking to collect score logs every other week or so. We're negotiable on that second part, we really just need servers.

Hi, I've arranged it in proper order for windows users (because it looked like a mess in notepad)

still working on spawns (right now they is a big gap, which I like but isn't very classical) and round end options (win zone, death zone, round end zone, nothing)

suggestions regarding settings and stuff are welcome as well

I had made an elliptical grid years ago, for old Fortress Test Server.
If you are interested you can find it on repository, you have just to remove zones.

EDIT: a preview

EDIT 2: I would also like to suggest cycle_rubber 2, instead of 1, which is still hard to play and discourages digging but meantime countenances longer fights and maybe less boxing. And last, cycle_start_speed 0 which is very cool.

Nice to see you putting another league, Concord. I have 2 dedicated servers being put together, one in Germany, one in St. Louis, USA. I would love to host for the league. Looks like about another 2 weeks before the hosting company can get them in my hands.

the camera turning is so painful >.>

Other than this, I am monitoring this with interest. I think I see why you dropped out of playfortress?

I can probably get a server up. I'm already looking to form a team with uNk, or maybe non-uNk if I have to.

I think a competition without zones and stupidly high rubber is something the Arma community needs desperately.

I am able to host a server for this from a new VPS out of New Jersey. It performs well (so far). Should I add it to the wiki or will the servers be hand picked?

the cfg attached to the original post has the access level settings for the league. this won't let you play unless you're on that player list (which doesn't exist yet)

the zip file now has the original and the same without those access level settings, which is useful for testing in local game, or for a test server

ok, we've got two complete teams, the league begins...

...once we get a server

I'll elaborate on how the league will be formatted.
Teams may join at any time and drop out at any time, we'd rather you drop out than simply stop showing up.

Once (if and when) 16 are competing, we will fulfill a concrete number of games, probably 8-16 games spread over 8 different days. Then the top quarter teams will enter a playoff bracket to determine a champion.

Aren't there 4 teams signed up? http://wiki.armagetronad.net/index.php? ... ps_Hips.21

Pru and vcl are signed up under teams list, but not technically "signed up". What is the verdict?

Once a team's sign up is complete, I activate it, and move it to current teams. Because sign ups are rolling, throughout the season there may be signed up teams with complete sign ups that are activated. Activated teams have schedules and are on the auth list.

The current teams simple list can be found here: http://wiki.armagetronad.net/index.php? ... rent_Teams
And the schedules and results are here: http://wiki.armagetronad.net/index.php? ... ague/Teams

The league has begun. PRU1 and Y3H3 will play the first match at a time tbd (probably somewhere in the typical 18-20 gmt slots) next saturday.
