Server stats here in profile
Server stats here in profile
I'm not even sure that this is possible without a lot of work.
I noticed that a lot of us are using the same name here and in the game, so I think it would be neat if we could check our stats for different servers here on the website/forums. Maybe even show who's all playing.
A friend of mine did something similar here with Tetrinet and Rock2 (a game he created, which can also be found on dillfrog for the curious.) You can actually see who's playing at the moment, and look at their profiles for their stats for each game. Of course, much fewer people are playing those games than are playing AA, so it may not be feasible.

couldn't stats be controlled by simple php protocol and a mySQL database, other than the difficulties of calculating overall performance for each person, it couldn't be all that hard, especially if all the servers sent their logs to the main server. I'm not all certain what is contained within the logs, so some degree of a file parser might be necessary. It's doubtful that this could happen for the older versions of AA but in later releases, such a system could be used. Tough I’m not sure if its worth all the trouble for such a novelty outcome....
It's actually in my plan to develop a way of syndicating stats and combining them for multiple servers in a useful fashion (possibly tank's code will work, but he hasn't released it so I can't use it) and to build several things.
1. A Mambo component so people can access their stats at the Breakfast off the Grid website (which will include configuring the different names they use on the grid).
2. RSS feeds for the ladder and possibly the other stat files
3. A soap protocol that will allow raw server stats to be sent and with the same API the combined stats can be sent. So developers would be able to query the information and integrate in their own applications and get multiple server stats from one location.
Expect nothing to happen here until summer, lots of work to do to finish out the semester.

Sorry tank, I'm just used to people releasing their code whether anyone expresses interest or not. I guess it's just the crowd I hang out with.Tank Program wrote:I'll get to it... bad joke coming:
end of bad joke
Well, sometimes the forum isn't the best place to get positive feedback. So here is some:
- You manage your site very nicely, there is little abuse of it
- There arent anything that is a problem that we have to endure. Sure there are some downtime, but you always bring it back quickly.
- Your always there when ever someone ask you a question.
- When you post, your always contributing and spuring new intrest, new discussion
- The site you run is such an agreable place that people who choose to leave inform everybody about their decision. If that is not the sign of a strong community, then I dont know what is.
- Of your coding exploits: You already made two (2) server sided mods! Each was always very popular.
I didnt have any list of that sort when I was 16!
So yes, sometimes the forum is quiet. But its a quiet admiration.

Tank: the answer I have, always, for the question "Should I release this code?" is "yes".
Of course, I feel physical pain when I have code that hasn't been released. YMMV
