The definition of racism;
Re: The definition of racism;
Indeed racism sucks. (regardless of what race(s) it's directed towards)
In the recent election (1 week ago), more swedes voted for "Sweden Democrats" than ever before. I've never been more ashamed of being from this poor excuse of a country.
And yeah, nationalism isn't exactly the same as racism, but it sucks too. Big-time.

There really is nothing wrong with nationalism unless/until it approaches borderline jingoism.

Meh. Countries are just lines on a map anyway.. It's all stupid to me, but w/e.

My definition of racism? It's pretty simple...
Stupidity/ignorance of the highest degree.

Question, what if a black man says n*gger?
Is that o.k.?
Is that o.k.?

Re: The definition of racism;
No, it's not OK. I don't know how it is in other countries, but in the USA there is an enormous divide between people of color. All "blacks" are not the same and have widely different values. In fact, a large portion despise the use of the word and shun those that do, whether they share the same racial attributes or not. I understand the desire to take a derogatory word and make it a term of endearment, but this one in particular has so much negative energy behind it, I can't see it ever being acceptable, anywhere, anytime.Olive wrote:Question, what if a black man says n*gger?

Re: The definition of racism;
well i think its not the actual word its the way how you say it ... like some words can be insults but if you use it to a friend its harmless..

Re: The definition of racism;
You shouldn't even use abusive language towards your friends. I don't mean to sound like some sort of preacher, but it's true. When you stop to think about it, I mean really stop to think about it, the language we use is extremely powerful. You would never want to call your grandmother a ni66er. If you really love a person, you don't want to describe them using words with hateful origins, regardless of current social trends. Ni66er is one of those words that even covered in sugar tastes like shit in your mouth when you say it. This redefining of the word ni66er has been going on for decades, and it still sucks. It's not an endearing term, anymore than fa66ot or spic or cracker or any other term used to segregate and defame another group of people.

personally i don't care "why" it's offensive, i just know that it is and i don't wanna use it.

Re: The definition of racism;
I was asking because i remember watching the chris rock show.
A black man in stage using the word while hundreds of black men and women laugh about it in the theatre and millions at home.
Ill try to pay attention but where i live it simply means 'black person'...

Re: The definition of racism;
Are you thinking about 'neger'? I think that's more a translation of 'negro' (of which I'm not sure what status it has in the US) whereas we actually also have the word 'nikker', which is definitely offensive but i haven't actually heard anyone say in the last decade.Olive wrote:Ill try to pay attention but where i live it simply means 'black person'...
