Olive isn't a problem (I almost never see the name "olive" on the grid anyway). Aliases are not despised by everyone, just some. I like aliases as an option, as do the majority of players. And olive might be onto something with this:

There is something here we should brainstorm on.

Player change their names. Players change their IP. But key-bindings rarely if ever change. Is there some way to take the information in user.cfg and encode it as a security key? Maybe mix it with other information about the computer Arma is installed on? I know people change computers, but probably less often than names and IPs?

What I'm trying to say is, let's find something about the player that is very unlikely to change and use that as part of a security system. Key-bindings is an interesting idea. Sure I might change my movement keys, but would I want to do that so I could have an alias for a competition? It would do me more harm than good I think.

OR we keep it like it is and accept the few alias' we have in the ladle. Seriously, when I see a team full of alias players I don't flip out and try to figure out who they are all week--if this is you then like I said before, get a hobby? It really doesn't have to be that much of an issue, please lets stop talking about this and have fun this ladle!

Do we still have an issue of randomizing the non-seeded teams here? Because I just realized it's pretty simple. If we're doing the setup with the 1st seed and 3rd seed in the top bracket, 2nd and 4th in bottom, then just put those teams there, and randomize the rest of the teams. No need to take the hard work of editing the code in the randomizing program.

The code also does some wiki formatting stuff. A rewrite is inevitable.

Not possible with an open source client. It will always be easily possible to make the client send fake information. IPs and whatever information the players give voluntarily is all we can work with.

i think there is a solution

make a the team leaders vote if they are willing to allow aliases or not for una or any other ... and if the result turns out to be not allowing una to go under alias then una have to remove alias idea..

That seems like way too much hassle to be a long term solution.

I think the best we can do is to make people *want* to use their real gid, by keeping track of individual statistics/having a reliable 'hall of fame' where achievements are linked to a gid. If you could combine it with a feature in the client where you see gids instead of names, and the ability to prohibit hidden gids in ladles it would be even better.

Think this is in place already. At least, in ladle servers I've been in my normally hidden GID showed up.

We did vote. Months ago. Aliases are OK (and will stay that way until a worthwhile alternative is presented).

.randomteam has been reworked for seeding
new messier code is http://armagetron.pastebin.com/cATFDLsK

if you need seeds just simply put
.randomteam <number of seeds> seed1 seed2 .... seedn teama teamb teamc
example
.randomteam 4 ct sp una rt tx una tu ds sa unk pru id nbk ot ctb

if no seeds are needed the command works the same as before
