Like, like I said, I already have a 'goshdarn in the works. What Gene (the host) and I plan to do is temporarily* activate a 0.2.6 server with goshdarn settings so I (and maybe a few others) can get a reminder of the online feel and behaviour, in an attempt to mimic it in 0.2.8.x. Then put up a permanent 0.2.8.x server.

* That is, it's not going to be up for general/public use. I'll only put it up when I'm using it, and will be using a 2.6 client to connect to it as well.

Granit isn't a word. Granite is, but what sort of relevance to you suppose a type of rock would have in that context?

My iPhone likes to make typo's. I try to catch them, but I don't always, because the format is a pita on my phone. This site isn't super iPhone friendly, but I'm not complaining. :P

Now, that's a legitimate typo, Jonathan. :P

(I don't buy that granted could be typo'ed into granit.)

This, there are way too many useless servers on Armagetron.

hey if there are any other configs of old servers and you like us (pru) to host them, let us know ^^

some of you might refuse to support clan-affiliated servers, but as you will know one of a clan's biggest advantages is that we have sufficient means to populate redundant servers ;)

here's something for those who miss the Golden Age of AA:

 The author is wrong and shallow on both counts.

Nice straw man, by the way.

Sure. Start here. Also, there are a few over here.

I see the names of these servers-of-old and think "gosh, I wonder what that was like?" Surely only a few were of pivotal importance, but I'll never know because I wasn't there.

The Lobster Cage was unique because brake was turbo but you could only use it once!

For as long as I can remember, the master server list has always been filled up with empty/useless servers. :) That's not a new phenomenon, people!

We did hit a milestone awhile back where we actually had more active players in servers than servers on the list, and that was neat.

I am sure that all these servers exist in one form or an other in the dozens of clones that are running now. Imagin what kind of servers and development that would be possible if we condensed the money spent on clone servers into a core of group servers that are used each day. I mean how many team sumo and fort servers do we need?
As for cloning the classics, i think you could run one server with multiple cfg's with a voting system to keep master list congestion down. I don't see them being used as much as you may think.

Quarg, this is specifically about NON-fortress/sumo servers (of which, yes, there is an overabundance). "Classic," as in normal, regular, pre-special-zone-based-game-mode goofery.
