Cosmetically attractive, yes, but does it improve your performance on the grid (instead of distracting you)? Maybe in sumo?

Re: Random Screenshots Thread
I never have the floor on when I'm actually playing.
Re: Random Screenshots Thread
me neither, when playing my client looks rather poor. I've somehow grown fond of it's pure functionality and rugged beauty.
The attached screenshot displays that and an affection for speed on a crowded grid.

The floor there does look awesome.Concord wrote:I thought this looked pretty cool

Wow Concord, the screenshot is wicked. What were the camera settings?
Re: Random Screenshots Thread
heh, I started with free cam
and an FOV of 90.
It seems the free camera focuses on a point in the grid (something like (25,25) it seems), so the best I could get with free cam is the attached image.
To get the perspective your talking about, I used mercam, following position 2 until they were at midgrid, then I switched to free cam and move the camera back and up. The free camera decides to focus on the point the cycle was when I switched.
Code: Select all
CAMERA_FREE_START_Z 100
CAMERA_FREE_START_X 370
CAMERA_FREE_START_Y 395

You can move the free cam all around using the move, zoom, and look keys.
Re: Random Screenshots Thread
it seems the direction the camera points resets to that same spot each round, and I found the angular velocity was to fast to turn slowly (changing camera_glance_angular_velocity didn't affect this). Any tips?

Re: Random Screenshots Thread
I discovered that reading a multisampled framebuffer using pixel buffers is... interesting. Probably more of an implementation bug than anything else. I don't feel like hacking Arma now, so you'll have to do with X-Plane (making a plugin for that doesn't take as much work).
For those who didn't notice, I was running 1920x1200 with 4x MSAA. But I get an actual surface of 3840x2400 to read from, with 2x2 blocks being the pixels you see on screen, now with samples separated. You can see polygon edges are pixel-level if a bit jittery, but textures live on 2x2 blocks.

Interesting indeed. Would be cool to abuse. The jittering may come from a non-square subpixel raster.

Re: Random Screenshots Thread
Yep, that's where the jitter comes from. The samples aren't exactly where they appear to be in the image.

If you think Phytotron has it bad sometimes, look at the stuff I have to deal with. Funnily enough this all happened when I had text output off (and only turned it back on to tell gekko to just ignore it.)
