Okay, two things:
1. I noticed that people seem to be able to turn around extremely quick, like grinding against their other wall quick, and I can't seem to do that, no matter how fast I mash my turn keys. Is there a technique for this, or am I just failing somehow?
2. I came up with (what I think are) some original strategies for non-team and team play:
non-team: act like a total noob (aka just randomly make shapes for no purpose) until someone gets somewhat close to you to go in for the kill, and then, just as they are about to speed trap or box you, turn into those shapes, grind against them, and maze them while you're fast so that they can't get to you.
team(ctf): get two teammates to form really close, parallel lines and have you go through the center while they keep going, effectively slingshotting you straight towards the enemy, and pray that they don't see your obvious maneuver.
EDIT: oh, I get it, #1 is double-binding.

Number two is called "grinding".
It is very good for building up speed as you pointed out. Have fun playing and just ask people things as you play along to learn more.
Back in the day when people would always respond with the term "magic" when others asked how they did things but i think people of today would be willing to explain.
