How to set up a server

Post by Apple »

I downloaded my Armegatron Advance Dedicated, but have no idea how to set up the actual server. Can anyone tell me how to set up a server?

This is a very, very, very generic(and which was asked a lot of times) question which is very documented on the wiki(there's a link at the top of this page).
Once you've gone through it and applied what it says maybe you can come back with a more precise question :) Good luck!

This is a self-serve game. There is no official support. So, the first thing you want to do is look over the wiki. Here is a good place to start: http://wiki.armagetronad.net/index.php? ... nistration

If your questions aren't answered there, your next step is to search these forums for help. Just about everything related to Arma servers is either here or the wiki.

Now, if you find that most of this stuff is over your head, there is still hope. You can always rent a server. They are cheap and save you all sorts of trouble. Check out lightfoot hosting if you want to go that route.

If you feel it absolutely necessary to post a new thread, DON'T. Use this one instead. Go through the steps on the wiki one by one until you hit a snag, then come here, to this thread and ask for help.

Good luck.

It doesn't say how to set it up.

BTW, I'm on a Mac.

It does. I suspect this may be a little bit too difficult for you (it is for me :) ). You should really consider renting a server. Or, make friends with someone who is experienced with servers and also has the time and patience to walk you through it step by step.

Have you tested your settings in a local game? You know, hosting a server can be as easy as opening your client and choosing "Host Game" in the server browser.

Umm... Then how are you playing the game? The thing where you're looking at servers to play on is the server browser....

That's not something you want to leave up for any amount of time. Even in temporary instances, the performance is never very good.
