You're missing the point. Yes, some people do volunteer for this type of work, but it's everyone's responsibility to stay informed and educated. Our real job, as citizens and customers who support these companies, is to make sure proper controls are in place to prevent something like this from happening again. If that means changes in regulation and legislation, then that's our job too.

But the republicans blame the government for not having fire booms which were made part of a plan in the 90's (I think) to eliminate most of the oil if said disaster happened.

The democrats hammer Limbaugh by making up things/ taking things out of the intended context (after all he is pretty sarcastic so it is easy to do)

Agreed. I only wish more people realized this. Citizenship in the United States is supposed to imply certain responsibilities on the part of citizens to do their part in choosing the best leaders and voting in a manner that flows from being as informed as possible to make wise choices.

Problem is, corporations have overwhelmed and replaced the influence of citizens on their governments. (That is, actual, corporeal citizens; not insane, Gilded Age era, Supreme Court court reporter created constructions of personhood. Corporations are legal fictions, not human beings. The "founders" understood this.)

Indeed, for any government that is chosen by the people, the people have a responsibility to stay informed about current events, historical events, and current issues so that they can choose government officials capable of dealing with these things competently and with respect to the will of the people.

If you fail to do *your* job, then you can only expect failure from your government.
