Durka - I foresee a major shift in fortress tactics (relatively speaking of course) that would speed up games.

Re: Money Tournament
anyway, i think if there are tournaments like that there will also be a lot of misunderstandings and disputes. and if everyone is playing from his hometown lag would make it kind of unfair. i wouldnt accept losing money just because i got a slide or something like that, you know?
tournaments with money should be played in local area networks, that would make it much more fair and easier to control... but i don't think arma is worth travelling to a specific country/town yet (as already said there arent enough players who would play for money...)

Re: Money Tournament
very true haha. well i was thinking about getting a trusted, euro player to host part of the servers. Finals would be(if between US and EU) 1 match US servers and the other on euro servers. for the tiebreaker it would be whoever kept it the closest in the match they lost. For now i think the idea isnt worth using though because its easy to see that people wouldnt pay the money. I have to admit though, if in the future there was a meeting on a lan that would be AMAZING
.

in the future, internet will be so fast that nobody will need LAN, and all lag will be history

Re: Money Tournament
having the money paid is pretty simple, because with a cash prize the team of people hosting the tournament will not let anyone in unless they pay. We would lose money lol. very simple

Until there's a way to spectate using a live-stream or something similar (I don't care about the technical details), it shouldn't be allowed to spec during these kinds of matches.
And until people can spec, there shouldn't be matches for money.
How to put up a live-stream has been briefly mentioned here and I know it has been discussed in another thread too, just can't find it right now.
Last time I saw it being discussed, it wasn't working yet. any progress?
As for the tournaments, sure I'd sign up. If fort: teams of 4. If sumo: teams of 3. Wouldn't recommend more than 2 teams fighting at the same time. Let's say there's a TST for money.. If team #3 and #4 are out of range for the top spot, they can crash into their friends, team #2's walls, and help them win the tourney that way. So yeah. teams_max 2 plz.

There simply can't be any tournament until a broader playerbase gets there. Simply because for a tournament with cash prizes, you need eitherJimpan wrote:there shouldn't be matches for money

Re: Money Tournament
very true epsy. i've been trying to mention the game to people and spread the word about it(although its old haha) but only time will tell if this will be possible. As of right now, no I guess. Hopefully more dedicated people will begin playing.

Wait, what? Did you just say this game is old? First off, it's not old. The game is timeless, which means it will never be dated because it's based on solid game play principals - just like checkers, chess, go, and any number of classic games. I think it was 2020 who said Armagetron is "future proof," and I agree. I've been playing snake-like games since they were first invented... nearly 30 years ago.ItzAcid wrote:i've been trying to mention the game to people and spread the word about it(although its old haha)
And believe me when I tell you I would gladly play more games from the Golden Age of Video Games if I could play them online with people (like Joust. I love that game still). Nintendo keeps releasing Mario Brothers games you know. Mario made his first appearance in Donkey Kong, 29 years ago. Are you even 29? Who's old now?

Re: Money Tournament
i was just saying that some people may not be attracted to it since its more like the older styles of gameplay which you've already mentioned. a good bit of people only care about graphics and gore
. not claiming to be old or knowledeable either lol. i admit im young

As playing videogames is again going beyond traditional hardcore gamers, games like this, where gameplay is the focus, are beginning to see an uptick in the numbers of actual players. Timeless gameplay? Definitely.sinewav wrote:Wait, what? Did you just say this game is old? First off, it's not old. Armagetron: It's a video game that people should just play and enjoy

Re: Money Tournament
bump
. as for the power heavy teams, there should be prize money for 1st 2nd and 3rd place.
we'd have to have refs of sorts to ensure that nothing deemed "unfair" occured.
we have the live feed nowTitanoboa wrote:Until there's a way to spectate using a live-stream or something similar (I don't care about the technical details), it shouldn't be allowed to spec during these kinds of matches.
