You know what I have always wondered about? All the good penetration testing programs that I am aware of are linux based. Windoze based programs are almost always used exclusively to spread viruses, trojans, keyloggers, etc.
Oh, and programmers that I have known over the years that are "white hat hackers" (security researchers) always used linux to do their stuff, cuz it is way easier to do it in!

Just to explain, pie, White Hat Hackers generally only hack their own servers, or servers that they as consultants are hired to hack. They don't do damage, but find the security holes and fix them, or report them to the companies who make the software to fix them. It takes years of study and learning to become one.

'Real' hackers generally don't crack stuff much at all. Their main skill is building things, not breaking 'em down.
