Server runs without errors, but I can't connect

Post by daaaaang »

Hi all!

Okay so I have a linux server, and I had no trouble installing armagetronad-dedicated and configuring it. Running sudo /etc/init.d/armagetronad-dedicated start goes off without a hitch.

Yet, I can't actually connect to the server. I know I have the server address right, and I even went so far as to redundantly copy SERVER_PORT 4534 into my server_info.cfg, yet I cannot connect on that port (or on several others).

The only issue I can think of is that I am running iptables. But I've completely opened up ports 4534 through 4538. Since 4534 is one of those, iptables shouldn't be a problem.

Incidentally, do you know where the armagetron logfiles are? I couldn't find them. They might help!

Thanks a bunch!

If you are looking for it in the master list, set:

Code: Select all

TALK_TO_MASTER 1
If this is set, find the server's IP address in the terminal. Custom Connect to the server, and see if that works.

Ignore pie, he usually doesn't know what he's talking about :) Yes, TALK_TO_MASTER is often a problem, but it doesn't influence direct connections, so not here.

What may be the problem is that you only opened the TCP ports. Armagetron uses UDP, so you'll need to open that, too.

The log files can be in various places, depending on how the game was built and installed. Usually, they go to /var/log/armagetronad.log, but distributors are able to change that if they think game related logs should go to /var/games/log or /usr/games/var/log or whatever. For test purposes, it's best to just run the server directly on a terminal and watch the output, then you can also issue commands to the server and play with the settings more easily.

Ok, I assume that is a joke. But you should tread lightly. It's clear you don't have the expertise to give someone server support, so I'm not sure why you are posting in this thread at all.

We don't need more troll-bait here. Chill out.

Pie, I have to agree with Z and Sine here...

Ok, but why did I add this signature? I was like 15 and thought I was smart? What a brat.

Haha pie i no you wont say it to me, but seriously your not an experienced host, give up. Good call above, n pie, just so you know, this could only be a port forwarding issue, not cfg. So next time u can copy slightly better advice
