CTF AI question

Post by Thilo »

I play a lot of (1/10) CTF, and the AI, Wyatt Earp, usually avoids me. Which is smart on his part, but every once in a while he'll snap into kill mode and try to pawnt me. It seems totally random, but I'm sure there's something in his programming that gives him the idea that it's time to strike... and I want to be able to reproduce it whenever I want.

Is there a specific pattern or grind move I can do to cause the AI to attack me?

This is what I suggest Mr. Bat:

1. Get yourself the physics for regular CTF and load them into a local game. (Ask around, shouldn't be hard to find. Read the wiki to lean how to load settings if you don't know already.)

2. Take a look at "aiplayers.cfg" in your Armagetron/config folder. (Open it in your favorite plain text editor. Not MS Word. Everyone knows Word sucks.)

3. Tweak the Ai until it is FIERCE!

4. Ask Manta to load your Ai settings into Ww CTF, where Mr. Earp lives. I assume Manta already has the AI IQ cranked, but ask anyway.

By the time you complete this, you should know a lot more about the game and what you need to do to provoke an attack from the AI.

It seems that wyatt earp attacks when the time is almost over, i tried many times in afk mode and each time, after some minutes he becomes suddenly agressive

Coming Soon, a new CTF and CTFS servers from TheServerPharm. I have a new set of ai settings i am implementing in the "next" version of my servers, currently in testing, but not the ones you guys see, that is "super aggressive". Not only is the AI IQ cranked up, but the AI settings have the AI's very aggressive from the moment that play starts. Usually, i have very little trouble killing AI's in the game, but with my new AI settings, I think most players may find some single player challenges......

New version of TheServerPharm...coming very soon to a master server near you, probably beginning of next week, depending on how busy my real life schedule is.

Ugh.. Sine.. Every suggestion you ever give me involves doing work. Don't you get how lazy I am? Right now I'm dipping one finger in peanut butter and one in jelly and putting them in my mouth with some Wheatabix. "Tweaking" anything is out of the question. Thanks though.

If you're that lazy, then why did you bother asking for help? We're not going to do your homework for you, sorry.

I used to have AIs on my server that people would join just to play the AIs. People would actually get mad when someone came in to play and broke up the AI game. Heh.

Yeah, the AI really isn't that bad in this game, under the right circumstances. Two of my "Adventures of TRON" servers have AI in the game along with players - and the AI out-score them regularly. I prefer to play with the AI. There is no annoying colored text spam or excessive LOL's.

Well, Lucifer and Sine, I think after I get the next version of my servers going, I will have to look into creating a server with AI's that battle like that. Maybe even a couple...thanks for the ideas.

AHHHH.. so mean! Do you even realize? It's such mean language.. why do you do that? It's like you WANT to drive people away from your community here.

Assuming there's an answer to the question, you don't need to do the homework because you already know because you made the game. It's like if you lived in Sweden your entire life and I asked, "Do Swedes eat much Mexican food?" And you were like "IM NOT TELLING YOU BECAUSE HOW ABOUT YOU DO YOUR OWN HOMEWORK." It's basically being a "jackass," and there's a lot of it here, and it's probably the reason 95% of the posts in this forum are about drama and stupid stuff similar to this terrible thread that I'm now contributing negativity to.

All you have to do is be like:

"It seems that wyatt earp attacks when the time is almost over" (thx luf) or
"The AI is programmed to become aggressive whenever your rubber is below 20%." or
"Hmm no there's no specific pattern or grind move that triggers bot aggression." or
"That's actually not part of the game programming.. so I have no idea."

Those are all easy, nice, no-homework required ways to answer that question. This forum is chalk thick of dickitry and elitist attitude and I don't really like it and I'm probably not coming back for at least 4 months. Thx for the game btw.

Even though we know how the AI works (well, it's mostly me), we don't know this Wyatt Earp guy. Since he has a custom name, that means he has a custom AI definition. Whoever created that did the hard work of deciphering the AI configuration (and really, all the documentation that exists is in there) and experimented with it. You can either repeat that work or wait for the original creator to give you his AI config. Bitching won't help.

Tweaking is required, and since you say you're too lazy to do it, what do you want me to do? Hold your hand? Whisper sweet nothings in your ear?

Rule #1 of the internet: Don't ask for help and say you're too lazy to accept it. You deserve flames when you behave like that. In fact, I'd flame you in person if you did it in person. So the fact that this idiotic conversation is happening on the internet is irrelevant. :)

Edit: Oh yeah, your comparison is also bad. You asked something more like "How do I make my car go faster, like that other car over there?" and you received answers like "Install a turbocharger" and "re-gear your transmission". Then you came back with "I'm too lazy to work on my car, I prefer to live with one hand on my crotch and the other up my butt". That's a more apt comparison, I think.

Yeah, that was uncalled for dude. I'm very disappointed. Besides, It's Manta's server and AI you want to know about. Try lagtest.net.

I'm sorry you didn't think our help was good enough, even though everyone here is a volunteer and makes incredible efforts to make this game as enjoyable as possible. It's not like we didn't try to help - you chose not to accept it.

Here's the thing: if you did what I asked you to, you would find out how make the AI more aggressive. And by doing so, you would also learn how to provoke it. ANY ANSWER we gave you would still require a minimum of effort like I outlined in my first post.

If there was a simple answer like "Hmm no there's no specific pattern or grind move that triggers bot aggression," don't you think we would have said that?
