I don't believe it's true. It didn't happen for me. But is that because I was using a newer client?Z-Man wrote:FPS drops because of spectators? If this is true and not something players make up to give their bitching about lag (which, on VPS hosted games, yes, I admit is an issue) more weight, I'd like to see a recording of that so it can be fixed.
Re: Ladle 21 (Voting Over) Official Settings on pg. 2
Could be, but I wouldn't know a single subsystem where additional spectators would cause extra strain on the clients in any version. They're just practically dead entries in an array that is iterated over sometimes (rarely. Not nearly close to once per frame.)
Re: Ladle 21 (Voting Over) Official Settings on pg. 2
I pretty much agree with Z-man. Does anyone notice the mass differences between a full Ctf Server and a 10 player fort server with tons of specs? The big difference is the number of turns being made. Not the number of spectators.
Re: Ladle 21 (Voting Over) Official Settings on pg. 2
I don't really know how all this network stuff works but all i am saying is that there was a huge difference in lag between the final of Ladle and a random 6vs6 pick up game after the tourny. I just thought it was the spectators because that was the only difference between the two.
If you guys are asking me to prove that what am i saying is true or whateva i'm not even going to pursue it.
Please clarify, are you guys telling me that there is no difference in lag between a 12 player fort server with no specs & 12 player fort server with max number of specs from all over the world?

When i used to play rubber when i first started. It was people doing sling shots (ie. people going back & forth between their walls) that was major cause of the lag. I think that has something to do as well for CTF.Owned wrote:Does anyone notice the mass differences between a full Ctf Server and a 10 player fort server with tons of specs?

1. The server doesn't change to accommodate the people from around the world. That's why there's lag.
2. If there is a difference, it's very very small afaik (maybe under 1 FPS) and really wouldn't affect gameplay.

Random 6v6 rounds last about 45 seconds. Ladle rounds can be up to 3-4 minutes. Longer rounds = more turns. More turns = less FPS. Less FPS = apparent "lag".
Re: Ladle 21 (Voting Over) Official Settings on pg. 2
1200: Spectators definitely cause load on the server, which leads to a lower quality of service for the players. Whether the reduction is enough to be noticeable depends on the power of the server. That part is undisputed. What is disputed is that spectators cause FPS drops for players.

Can we have so that round countdown can't be interrupted?
Code: Select all
LAST_CHAT_BREAK_TIME -3
Re: Ladle 21 (Voting Over) Official Settings on pg. 2
Oh please make that happen. I hate that. Good one epsy.epsy wrote:... so that round countdown can't be interrupted?
Re: Ladle 21 (Voting Over) Official Settings on pg. 2
I was noticing the difference in the lag from the beginning of the round. During the finals there was a noticeable lag from the beginning to the end of the round for the whole finals. The same amount of lag did not exist after the finals ended.DDMJ wrote:Random 6v6 rounds last about 45 seconds. Ladle rounds can be up to 3-4 minutes. Longer rounds = more turns. I mean when i say noticeable i'm not talking about change of 1 fps or anything. I'm talking about enough lag to make you change the way you play (at least for me).
Zman also seems to agree that spectators causes lower quality of service for the players. So my question is
why are we letting the spectators lower the quality of play for the players? Isn't this a dilemma that's worth while to get voted upon??? (along with other things next time things get voted.)
Re: Ladle 21 (Voting Over) Official Settings on pg. 2
My main objection against forbidding spectators is that locking down the server is impractical, as often players will drop and want to rejoin or just come late, and that kicking spectators manually is impolite.

i would have to agree with z-man on spectators, that is why i am glad teams can finally be locked.

Maybe we can put a message "no spectators please do not enter" as i've seen in some tournies.Zman wrote:My main objection against forbidding spectators is that locking down the server is impractical, as often players will drop and want to rejoin or just come late, and that kicking spectators manually is impolite.
And I don't think its impolite to kick if they ignored the sign and after we ask them to leave and they don't.
Shouldn't this issue be catered more towards the players than the spectators??
