I want to bring back Fortress for Four

give me config files and I will give you servers hosted in Connecticut US

On the day of the Tournament, There will be only one other server active on that VPS!
I have several American Clans that would like to see me provide servers, since they ping well to my servers.

So, np, you do all the work!

Sorry for the Double post. But I just wanted to give you the courtesy of an update. Several American clans have expressed to me that they would have no interest in joining yet another "Euro" sponsored and controlled Fortress Tournament. For their sake I am going to host a Fourtress for Four tournament that will be run out of the Wild West Forums, targeted toward that community.
My original goal was to build up the American Fortress Community, and that will serve this goal. I have put up a server that serves as a model of the tournament servers that I will run.

The attached config file is merely the ladle settings with a change to team size and max_clients. I am putting the config file out there, in the spirit of transparency, should anyone be curious, or want to duplicate my effort.

1. The Server Name is way too long. It doesn't fit on the master server browser for 0.2.8 clients.
2. You didn't attach the config file. Anyways, I'm assuming one could just use:

You can moan about this community being more european there I guess; but that's not going to change anything.

As said earlier, I'm open to splitting brackets into EU / US (and of course to have appropriate times, otherwise that'd be plain useless).

The settings can still be found on the rules page.

Now I find it sad you're splitting off. This will just confuse about everyone. I guess it's late for this one, but I hope we can merge that for the next one, if possible.

For my part I will still run the FFF, though only with European servers, since the opposite wouldn't make sense.

I think it's clearly obvious that the main reason the "Americans" (aka Wild West players) don't want to participate in a "euro controlled tournament" is basically they will face tougher competition that they're not used to. Whether it mean playing in euro servers or playing against tougher opponents, they're afraid to lose. That's my assumption.

As for me, I don't care. I just wanna play

Ok, the one problem that I should have brought up in my prior post but failed to bring up is one of scheduling. I certainly understand the wisdom of doing this the 3rd sunday of the month. However, many of the American players are CTF players and they participate in a CTF tourney the 3rd Sunday of every month.
This is why I have chosen the second Sunday of every month.
Epsy, my apologies for not mentioning that I did check out the FFF website and settings therein. Thank you for being a responsible tournament administrator.
Durka, I quickly dashed off the prior post and stupidly meant to point out what you already did. That I merely added the limit to the number of team members.
I agree that it sucks to split this tournament. But, I am trying to nurture a small, very new fortress community. Also, I think that you guys sometimes forget, that the community from which these people come is the community that has kept Capture the Flag and similar game modes thriving!
If all I wanted to do was maintain the split, I would never post here again. That is not my intention. The hope, is that this is a stop-gap measure only.

As an "American", I'd like to add that it doesn't matter to me one bit who runs a tournament or where the servers are. You build the fortress, I'll knock it down.

In the last ladle I played on a team with six americans. We played all four rounds in a european server. We eventually lost to an all European team, but no one on either side blames or credits the pings for that.

There were American teams that lost in American servers and European teams that lost in European servers.

Aside

: if you're talking about Ladle 19, you should know that two players from Kill or Die were Americans. One of them was the defender.

Well said sine. And whoever these Americans are that are saying such things should just not play in these events then. Who cares, its probably some 12 year old kid from North Dakota who locks himself in his basement and complains about lag. Speaking of lag, I lag more in Wild West servers these days then any other server period. Been happening to loads of people too.

Did anybody read my above post? I spoke about SCHEDULING.

I am not talking about clans and teams that already play in ladles, they would all happily participate in the fff put on by epsy, BTW, so would the Ww clan.

I am talking about clans that have an interest in Fortress, but not a very active squad, team, etc. I am trying to grow interest in the game mode. I don't understand why it's so insulting that I run some small, not competing tourney. I am not trying to compete with your efforts! In fact, I encourage them!

You shouldn't be offended by my running what will be always a small tourney! I am helping to develop new players and teams. I am not using some weird, unique settings. I am not trying to do so behind your backs or without your knowledge. In fact, I have sought to inform you!

It may seem that I am isolating our community. But in the long term, I am not. The goal of this competition is to get people to playing fortress and forming larger teams to play in Ladles.

Of course, by getting them to play in Ladles, they start to participate in the larger community! Hopefully, my little tourney runs some, and then becomes obsolete. I am not intending to offend. I see this is obviously somebody else's territory! I mean no offense or harm! I just want to grow the game mode.

Oh, and to noobsaibot, I hate it when ppl complain about lag!

It's great that you are spending your time trying to organize this stuff, props to you gene. I wouldn't mind taking part it in either, I'm always up for a competition.

I was just agreeing with sine in that people shouldn't be judging things whether they are hosted by Euro's, or American's or Asian's...just play!
