Ladle 18

Although it's a great idea in theory, turning on this feature causes the server great lags.Concord wrote:Any chance the final could be in a sty+ct server so that we could have a live animation in svg grid images somewhere online?
It was on at flower power briefly a couple of times, whilst switched on the number of lag cries went up enormously. Even I cried it to myself on occasion, of course never out loud, only feeble players blame lag.

Actually I'd assume that if you just compiled a client off sty+ct it would be capable of doing that. I can't see a reason why this shouldn't be possible.
As I don't think the two branches are recording incompatible it could just as well be the client that does the recording.
Also, the amount of lag depends on how often the files are generated. IIRC flower power always ran at some insane setting of ~10 SVGs per second, one SVG every five seconds would probebly not be noticable (You'd also want to push those files to an external web server to avoid lag caused by http clients).

There's no place like ::1
It was one svg per second. Setting it at one svg per 5 seconds would probably help, but wouldn't make watching it much fun.wrtlprnft wrote:IIRC flower power always ran at some insane setting of ~10 SVGs per second.
I think a client offloading their svgs to a capable webserver would be the way to go.
I also got partly through writing a parsing script that updated kills/chat/round winners/etc on the fly to be displayed alongside the svg. It looked something like this.
That is, the script updated thisxml page (you may need to view source of this page) with the latest grid information every time a new svg was created.
wrtl partially wrote a javascript that would keep that page updated smoothly with the grid happenings. It looked very nice.
Trouble was it made the server so laggy having all that going on that I went off and did something more fruitful.
Maybe it would be worth reexploring from the clientside.
I think having the score is essential. I really enjoyed watching the Brawl SVGs, but you couldn't get anything more that a very general overview of the game. Like if there were 2 players left, you couldn't really tell who won.
I don't have any technical skills, but I'd like to help in any way possible, like if you need server space or something. Good luck with the SVGs.

So now we have two weeks until it happens. Lets deal with the specifics. Who can put up servers for the tourney? Since we have 12 teams, we can probably go with 4. 8 teams play in 4 sets of 2 and those winners play the other 4. This brings me to the next question. Should those 4 teams be seeded? We have the top 4 from the last ladle so it shouldn't be hard to set up.
Hopefully we can also have a 3rd place match added to the bracket.

Ok I'll say here that we'll have seeding (as of now.) If anyone objects you can bring it onto this forum. If no one does within a week we'll have it.
I guess the other 9 (or more) spots (and the servers) will be decided on the Wednesday before the Ladle on IRC.
For everyone providing servers (we need 5 now considering a 13th team joined,) be sure to have ladle settings and at least 24 clients. We need 8 spots for substitutes, admins, and if spots are left, spectators.

Yes you can use my server...but not the one that you have seen. I decided to setup my own vps, since i am tired of paying $22 per month for one server. It is the same vps provider that Durka is using. I will have a server up within 24 hours of this post. Look for The Server Pharm:Ladle Fortress Server! It will have the Ladle 17 settings. K-Yo..u will have owner privledges, let me know if you have any trouble with the server, that you need me to fix. PM me on lagtest.net or the crazy tronner forums.

It's getting kind of confusing when people keep referring to them as the "Ladle 17" settings.
I made an official Ladle settings config file. The only difference I changed had to do with single player scoring that freaked some people out in the Ladle 17 settings.
Anyways, for server admins just update your config files:
