I wonder... could there be instant messaging support in the game, like with a chat command? a command like /msn <buddy name> <message>
or /aim, or even /irc <channel>?
...and unnecessary lag? Maybe instead of chatting, you can concentrate on the game instead? Or even better, find a lightcycle clone to play in you IM client! Problem solved.
Talking about chat,
isn't there a way to make the chat font size smaller?
so far i tried searching and only found FONT_BIG_THRESHOLD_HEIGHT
But there seems to be a limit to have small you can make it.
I think the concept of having builtin IM/IRC is a good idea, as long as the commands work like a normal IM/IRC client and don't send data over Arma servers. However, I am sure there are more important things to add to the game before anything like that.
Lucifer... What do you mean by that? XMPP is pretty much google talk. and could easily be used for IM because it's for IM based authentication... right?
Have a script capable of reading/writing to the server. Have it scan for commands /irc (everyone could see this) /pirc (only people in irc can see this). Hand over information to an irc bot have the irc bot hand any relevent bot commands to the script #armasrvr1 hello world(tell arma say irc fakename: hello world)
Solution 2.
When(if) ruby scripting in arma is complete, write a script to hand over information to your favorite im/irc client etc. you get the idea
I really dont see a point in this though, just run arma in window'd mode and have im/irc open next to it.
No offense, or anything but honestly, this is pretty dumb. Considering that I don't see any reason why this should be brought into the game, and or if it is, god bless us all...
