[Solved] Inability to Connect - Lingering Firewall

Post by Nano »

It's pretty odd... Basically I can't seem to connect to Arma. It times out with all the master servers, and my bookmarks can't find their destination servers either

I've tried:

Pinging the Arma master server (successful ping)
Going online with messenger, browser etc (successful, obviously)
Killing all firewall/antivirus/etc tasks
Using both 0.2.8 and 0.3.0
Uninstalling and reinstalling
Uninstalling, deleting all tron relevant files and registry values, then reinstalling

My father's computer, which connects, naturally, through the same ISP and router, can succesfully connect and play.

I'm confused as hell o.O;;

Well, I'd say you have some firewall like program still on your computer that specifically blocks our UDP traffic. Messengers and browsers use TCP and other ports than Arma. So, search your computer again for programs of this kind. Especially be on the lookout for anything with the name Norton on it, it deserves to be killed, burned and buried, not necessarily in that order.

My first step in any problem solving and diagnostic is work backwards. Look for what has changed or if you have installed something new or played with a setting.

I experiment with too much software to track it down that specifically (obviously, like pills, I don't take software from nowhere I dont trust)

I would not allow anything Norton or Symantec related on my comp lol. I keep a Norton Removal Tool exe on my flash drive at all times

I'll take another look at possible UDP blockin noobery when I get home

Edit: lol fixed my signature. Figuring that BBcode is BBcode and oughta all work the same, I just c/ped from dBd clan forum sig. Not quite BIC, but not quite being on top of things either XD

Topic Solved (feel free to close)

The culprit turned out to be a lingering firewall type service from a security suite which I'd switched from....the fact that its firewall stopped tron from connecting being one of the reasons I switched away from it to begin with. When I was running the actual program, I disabled the firewall, and there was no longer a problem

Long story short, I hadn't done a proper uninstall. I thought I took out all the hooks, but I need to learn to do things 'the right way' more often lol

Thanks for everybody's time
