Common Bug (for me)

Post by taco343 »

Often while playing tron, the game just freezes up. My music still plays and I can turn up volume and change song, but Tron won't quit! I can't quit out of it in anyway and I am always forced to do a force shutdown.

I am running

iMac G5 - PowerMac12,1
Mac 0S 10.4.11

Is this a common bug?

Does shift-esc work? Can you force quit it? I don't think we've had any reports of anything like this before.

What version of Armagetron are you using?

Since you have a Mac, you might want to try a relatively new subversion from:

http://durkas.info/mac (armagetronad-0.2.8_alpha20080410.macosx-universal.dmg)

See if the same bug occurs with a newer version ^^

I've tried everything, nothing works, not Shift+ESC, Apple Q, etc.

I get it maybe twice a month-ish?
It is the only "bug" like thing I ever get with Tron

im using v0.2.8.2.1

I'll try the Alpha and I'll post if anything happens( or hopefully does not )

So far the Alpha ( which is currently on my desktop ) averages 500 fps in a local game compared to the other ( which is in the Applications folder if that makes a difference ) which averages 250 fps.

Ok using the Alpha I froze :(

I was in a network game and I clicked on about wondering what it was, and it froze! I also noticed that a window pooped up telling me that I was listing to the Red Hot Chili Peppers >< (I need to get rid of that)

The program that alerted me was called GimmeSomeTune. I just use it to fetch song lyrics, could it be the problem? Also after rebooted( again ) I saw things in my trash -> Recovered files. Similar files were in my trash after the earlier crash.

Note: If a full screen program freezes, you can still force quit it (Command-Option-Esc). The force quit window will pop up even if you can't see it, and you can just hit return to quit the current application.

I'm fairly certain this is an OS problem, and not a tron bug. I have this happen to me all the time with other programs (usually ones that use java *shudder*)
The windows don't freeze until I try to close them, at which point they stop responding and I have to run my task manager.

If you keep track of the events leading up to the crash then we could possibly narrow down from that and find the error. For example, if Armagetron crashes every time GimmeSomeTune notifies you of a song change then you've found the problem :).

Another thing I would check for is if you have any haxies installed. Check for a ~/Library/Application Enhancers/ directory or if there is an APE System Preference pane.

I don't have any haxies/APEs, and If The SomeTune app crashed tron every time a song changed, well I would crashing a lot.

Ok and Ill start Tracking my activities :)

You should also check for

Code: Select all

~/Library/Input Managers

Code: Select all

/Library/Input Managers
and

Code: Select all

/Library/Application Enhancers/
directories. Also monitor the messages displayed from

Code: Select all

/Applications/Utilities/Console.app
You should also browse through the crash logs if there are any from Armagetron, but it seems the application is just freezing and not crashing in your case.
