Tron is like Fencing

Post by m¡st »

Well, the main objective of not sealing one's opponent is to involve you and your "partner" in a sort of dance, where the objective is not to kill, only to prove dominance by twisting your "enemy" in his or your maze. Rather like fencing.
Imo, not sealing can be fun (in you aren't feeling sinister) to play, ofttimes boring to watch. I often get a great deal of satisfaction out of mashing my opponent with a nice plug or corner.

Heh, the comparison to fencing....

I would say it's more like fencing, but you're only allowed to hit at a particular angle with a particular pressure. If you hit too hard, or too soft, or at the wrong angle....

Anyway, it may be more like foil and epee, which have right of way rules, but let's face it. This place is full of saber fencers.

I think I've leveled up in fencing. This last Friday I had two bouts in class, and in both of them I did new things and felt comfortable doing them, but in one in particular we were fencing really fast. Not just fast-moving, but my mind was in the middle of the action, so not only was I lunging quickly, I was disengaging and double-disengaging and choosing my targets. Got parried a lot, and parried his ripostes a lot, but the action was really fast and I really felt like I was actually in the middle of it (rather than my arms doing most of the work).

Good times. :)

Nice =)

My ex-girlfriend was in a fencing competition the other day. She got mauled by some incredibly vicious players.

Last spring I used arma as a way to practice for fencing. It worked, but this spring I want to do more physical practicing, so I'm doing the workout from my martial arts class last fall.
