Forum request: Teams
Catergory: Armagetron
Forum name: Teams
Description: A space for teams or clans organization
Subforums: kill or die, twisted rats, the tronic donkeys, crazy tronners, speeders, x... (these are just examples, the subforum will be made only when the team/clan request it)
original post: http://www.buio.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=36#p249
P.S. Also a re-new of Server section would not be a bad thing. There are noteworthy servers like ct's servers, wrtlprnft's servers, norm's server, ds's servers, wild west's servers, etc., that, in my opinion, deserve a subforum.
EDIT: also it could be a good occasion to raise donations for the aa community.

It's not a fundamentally bad idea, at least for teams. Not so for clans, at least not for clans as I understand them; a clan typically wants to be somehow separated from the rest of the players and need a place for their members to chat about this and that among themselves, we can't provide that here. Well, technically we could, but I don't think Tank would be too happy to add a secret "Car Talk" subtopic for every clan that wants one. Besides, personally I want to keep typical clan-talk (claiming your clan is superior, spammy recruiting,...) as far away from my daily "View post since last visit" click as possible.
Teams indeed need little structure here: a user group, moderated by the team leaders, a public subforum to make team specific announcements and to receive challenges from other teams and membership requests (and no frigging recruiting spam) and a private subforum to discuss secret tactics and internals (membership requests and the like). Both forums would be moderated by the team leaders. An of course there would need to be a "New Teams" subforum where new teams could form (again, with rules against recruiting and membership request spam), and maybe a subforum for spam-less recruiting. I would vote for the inclusion of that, I think it could bring more life here. Not every player group needs to have their own forum somewhere with separate login.
My definition of "Team" for the purpose here would be: a group of players that plays together in team-based game modes in competition with other teams. A team understands that there is no mythical reason that makes them better than anyone else. (That last sentence is only there to exclude the annoying variant of Clans; otherwise, a Clan can also be a Team, no problemo).
Recruiting spam, IMHO, would be having more "Team Z is recruiting" threads than technically necessary (which means more than one in most cases, just make it sticky in your own subforum) or bumping your recruiting thread without an obvious reason other than to bump it (That your team is not more important than anyone else, and that extends to your recruiting thread). Of course, I'd prefer it if there was no recruiting thread at all and teams and members would find to each other by some other means; a place where you can see the recruiting status of all registered teams ( "recruiting/actively seeking new members", "not actively seeking, but accepting new members", "full, not accepting new members, not even Jesus" ) and teams can set that status would be nice. A Wiki page may be sufficient, although the Wiki has seen a fair share of clan spam, and such a page would be a focal point for that.
On the subject of server subforums, maybe an "Other" subforum there would suffice, where users are encouraged to tag their posts with server names, i.e. "[DDL] Gv Us Mor Rbbr!!1!!". Servers with enough posts can get their own subforum, then.

I like the idea and (as a captain of a team) I agree with z-man. From my experiences a team doesn't need an own website with forum and stuff. Altough I could understand if Tank's answer is "no" because of different reasons (z-man named a few) like spam threads, organizational problems or just the fact that this forum isn't a clan/team forum.
@z-man: you talk too much.
Recruiting isn't that big of a deal, I don't think. I think our existing "don't spam" rules are fine to allow recruiting when a team needs players for an event, and team leaders have mostly figured out that if they're short players they can get them from #armagetron most days.
Other than that, and without considering the work involved, I like the idea too. In fact, considering the work involved, would Tank be willing instead to elevate a couple of users so he can offload work like this onto them?

Shouldn't that motivate you to write up a feature that lets us put arbitrary MS Paint pictures drawn by DrJoeTron right there for the victim to see?z-man wrote:Lucifer: you're probably rightI've just had it once or twice too often that I join a server under a false name, pwn someone whose clan tag I have never seen before twice (and you know that means my opponent must be rubbish) and get invited into the victim's clan. Yeah, right.
Maybe we can get him to sign his pictures so we can literally filter out all the worthless imitations.
In other news, my daughter is becoming quite the kolourpaint artist. That optical mouse has really helped her a lot. Now I need to get her one of those fancy tablets...

You're missing tons of sites for that list epsyepsy wrote:For those who doesn't read CT forums
Re: Forum request: Teams
No way! It would be totally different! Because
a) it's us doing it
b) it's about Teams, not Clans
Seriously, though, I never scrolled down far enough to see the clan subforums on DDL. But obviously, there seems to be some desire to have such a section here, so apparently, version #0.5 to #4 seem to be lacking something for some people. For me, that would be the simple fact that #0.5 to #4 are not here. Here is my Tron home, and whatever community communication I get involved with, I strongly prefer it to happen here (or on IRC, of course). Call it meta-clan mentality if you like
