i just got back and checked for new posts here (there were a lot)
but for some unknown reason my line cut off ??? and after logging in again all the new posts are gone (same old problem)

is there any way that the info you send us in a cookie can instead be saved in our profile on your server ?

this i think would solve the problem (i think) ?

As I understand it, it purposely marks everything as read. It would be fine if it just didn't do that, unless you request it. I read from more than one browser/computer, so a cookie wouldn't work for me.

What about if it showed new posts like on every 30 min point?

Like is someone posted something at 4:00 pm, it would say as un-read. Then when it got to 4:30 is said everything was read.

You can make it how ever you want like do that every 10 min or every couple hours.
I think it is a good idea, no cookies for the user.

i really hate this cookie problem here

my forum only uses cookies to store if you are logged in or out, the new posts are all stored server side

maybe i'll have a talk with them see if i can get their php code for the new posts and adapt it for here ? who knows

n54 or nic, I forget who exactly, found a mod to fix this, and I've got it bookmarked, I just never got around to installing it...

i'm sure R45 (see link) can help further for any who needs more info, try checking out his own pages. this is a bit old now and there might have been new developments (like new phpBB possibilities), not sure.
