IRC Server- Please Read

Post by PiKeMaN »

Ok, any of you who know what IRC is (and those that don't) are free to make irc.tkwnet.com Armagetron's official IRC server. The server is a part of a gaming site (www.tkwnet.com) that will eventually have a client of sorts that you can use to connect to games such as armagetron, chess, checkers, etc. Anybody thats played on www.zone.com, the site will be like that. I'm just making an open invitation to anybody that wants to start an IRC server for armagetron.

If you havn't used IRC before then go to www.mirc.com and download the client, once you have it opened and all the information filled out then type in /server irc.tkwnet.com and it will connect, to see a list of all channels type /list. mIRC does not run out even though it says it will after 30 days. You may want to pick up an add-on script like nnscript (the one i use) from www.nnscript.com or Invision from www.i-n-v-i-s-i-o-n.com.

If you wnat to do this then you will be able to do almost anything you wnat on the server, as long as you stay within the limits of the MOTD. We will allow anyone to make as many channels as you want about anything that you want and we also have a java client that will point to the server if you want that to put on anybody's site (it's more or less just a web based IRC client that runs through your browser).

Seems to me like abunch of people here know how to code, so many people could write bots that would relay the stats from servers into an IRC channel so there would be no need to go to a site the see whos number one. There are active admins at all times so if theres a problem with disruptive users they can and will be dealt with immediately. Commands such as !search Tigersteamplay #20 can be added to search for the 20th ranked player on the Tiger's team play server. There is literally endless possibilities with an IRC server.

I highly encourage you to come to this server to chat with people, the mirc client itself is also small so it shouldn't lag your games (connection is not an issue, chat will not be lagged at all). So, hopefully i'll see you there, and if you have any questions/comments please ask.
