The message players get when they join the server is controlled by the MESSAGE_OF_DAY setting. Is it that what you mean by "message at the beginning"? There is no "message at the end" that I'm aware of anywone wanting to have configured.

For the rest, it's kind of unwise to bash on the WIKI and ask for a complete guide PMed to you. It's clear that the WIKI has its shortcomings, but why would you think someone would do the work and write a better version only to send it to you? If you want to have the WIKI improved, point out specific issues, areas where things are unclear, where knowledge is required from the reader without pointing him to places where he can get it. If you want help, ask specific questions, and we'll be glad to answer.

ROUND_CENTER_MESSAGE
ROUND_CONSOLE_MESSAGE

I think those are the two you are looking for.

Well, that's a specific point :) And you can fix it yourself, just register, then you'll be able to change the skin. I got mine changed to "Simple" because the others slow down my browsers way too much. I do find the default skin quite readable, though.

You don't usually enter commands directly into the server, unless you want to change stuff on the fly and don't mind the clumsy interface (it's much nicer in Unix somehow, at least backspace is working there. We don't put much work into it, I admit). What you do instead is you edit the configuration files. Look for a file called settings_dedicated.cfg; it should be inside the config folder of the directory you installed the server into. There, create a new file called settings_custom.cfg. Whenever someone tells you to set BLA_BLUBB to x, you add the line

Code: Select all

BLA_BLUBB x
to that file. So to give your players a special greeting and remind them every round where they are playing, you add

Code: Select all

MESSAGE_OF_DAY Welcome to the sqash mash server! No camping, no complaining.
ROUND_CENTER_MESSAGE A day not spent on squash's server is day wasted!

You type that to set variable BLA_BLUBB to x. Replace BLA_BLUBB and x as appropriate.

http://wiki.armagetronad.net/index.php/Console_Commands

There's a list of all the console commands. You enter those into the server prompt to change the settings of the server. However if you want the settings to be saved you'll have to edit them inside of the appropriate config file.

All of the info in this thread is on the wiki if not detailed slightly differently. What on the wiki doesn't make sence to you? If people point out the poorly worded parts they can be rewritten. This insures the next person looking on the wiki doesn't have the same problem.
