classic play server

Post by pepsi »

playing today as namco

when someone on dialup joins a game its very lagged for the first few rounds so dont expect to see them playing at 100%

let them drive around for a bit to let everthing syncronize, then you will see them playing well after 2 or 3 rounds

dont be kicking them out in the first round before their pc has a chance to sync up

not everyone has fast pcs with cable connections, some of us have dialup and really shit slow pcs and our systems take a lot longer to get in sync with the game

i was kicked, rejoined, complained, died a few times (waiting for re-sync)
i then went on to WIN THE MATCH

you admin guys are too fast on the kick button just give people a chance ok

if someone continues to camp on every round then fine kick them out but not when they have just joined and are waiting for their pc to sync up

and dont be telling me that it re-syncs on the 1st round because i know thats bullshit ok

try playing on a 300mhz pc with 33.6k dialup and about 2 fps and you will see that everything ive said is true it does take about 2 or 3 rounds before things start working right

so yes my pc sucks but given the chance i can win the game so dont kick me out because im getting sick of it

Hi namco

Guy, i warned you yesterday ... i mean, sealing yourself in in every round and then telling me you are waiting for an exit because your connection is so slow ... It's ok if there are more than 2 players but hell, it is boring to watch for all the others if only two players are left. Today you played like you should play - in an open field and really good .. continue that and you wont get kicked. Please keep in mind - this is not your local game, there are up to 14 other players waiting ....

cya on the grid

classic play has a very large community of mostly broadband users who do not like people that ruin the game for them. so, as a result sometimes people may get kicked in what seems like an unjust manner but they are really being kicked for sucking the enjoyment out of the game for others...

edit: please, don't type all in bold.

pepsi, i love your pic (a good asparagus crop takes years to grow).

norm is the usual moderator at classic and IMO he has a good point about all those ppl waiting. OTOH, i also think you have a good point, and if you ever make it to TEAMPLAY or CLONE and i'm there you have my full support to spend a couple rounds syncing with the server. i don't know the technical explanation exactly (balancing ping charity), but i agree with you that it is a real phenomenom.

Hi namco

<guy ? im not a guy ok

Okay, then you are not a guy, sorry for that

<I dnt even play yesterday ok, what the hell are you talking about ?

Maybe it has been past midnight, not sure about that.

<today i played not yesterday and you kicked me out during the 1st or 2nd
<round (ive explained above about that)

No, i watched your play for more than 2 rounds.

<you just dont give anyone a chance to play

I do, remember, you played quite good after your return and you even
won the rounds :) Its really a shame that you are lagging the server
with your high ping, i guess you are a good player. Any chance you could
upgrade your internet connection ?

kind regards

Hi iceman

<norm theres no need to boot players because they are able to beat you

LOL Point taken, he beat me, thats true

<ive seen the same problems in classic play on my dialup

Yeah, its really a shame that you cant get a good connection. Problem is really that every high ping ruins the game for everyone on the server. Iceman, i'd be happy to connect you directly to my network switch for some nice matches with you

cheers mate

lag in classic play is getting worse and worse

i also notice that at the end of the round my ping jumps very high (im assuming that its at this point that you send all your game chat logs to your secret file and this causes even more lag)

i talk to norm and he says that TANK is the server owner
could you please turn of the chat logging and set ping_charity to ZERO

thankyou TANK

chat logging is done via an external process. i will be changing no settings any time soon. i'm not sure what is causing any new "lag" but it may have something to do with 190+ days of uptime, on speculation... eventually i may address this issue but i don't see anything that i can do at this point. the server has plenty of bandwith, but there may be somet traffic on the network it is that is interferring with gameplay, which again is something i can't change

well "4 lives" is run from a different connection, right? so maybe pepsi would have more luck there?

also there are many other euro servers to choose from, if i recall correctly. off the top of my head:

ring community (spain)
armasmegtron.es (or something)
armagetron.dk
inner, outer, middle districts (germany)

4 Lives is no longer running. I've gotten the necessary feedback from that...

couldnt you do a regular reboot of classic play tank (say once per week) ?

this should fix the accumulation of lag that builds up due to the crappy code

It was up 3 months without lag issues... And it has been less than a week since I last restarted armagetron on it. I'm afraid restarting the server is kindof out of the question though.
