and at plannedparrothood.com i saw this trivia bit: What amazing nest-building technique does the tailor bird use?

The golden-headed cisticola (or "tailor bird") of Australia collects spiderwebs and uses them to sew together its nest! This small bird, Cisticola exilis, uses its beak as a drill to make tiny holes in leaves and grass blades. Then it carefully separates the strands of a spiderweb and threads the web through the holes, pulling it tight by hovering and backing away. The whole operation takes about five days. When it's done, the bird has a neat, cozy nest!

Slightly diffrent but I thought something that i thought was really cool are some Australian bird song samples that I just found and had a listen to. If people want to know what australian birds sound like . Give them a listen. I recommend a good pair of headphones.

I thought those blue and yellow maccaws looked spectacular nic. Me and Frizza are members of the Melbounre Zoo (free entry so we go a quite a bit) and they have a few Macaws there. Sectacular birds.

ah, sweet. i wish i was a member of the zoo here. i'd love to visit the animals weekly and spend quality time with anything frisky. the only animals going on right now are squirrels that run inside the walls of this house. weird but kind of amusing, except when i want to sleep, dammit.

i did work at the philly zoo one summer for the horticulture dept, which provided some interesting animal experiences which i'll have to dredge up sometime.

and i just read this about steve irwin (noted for handling problem crocodiles with little more than his bare hands):

Is scared to death of parrots, especially the sulfar crested cockatoo. When he was four years old he almost had his nose bitten off by his father's pet sulfar crest. The only bird he feels comfortable around is a black cockatoo named Ularoo.
