new move: 100% guaranteed teleportation

Post by n54 »

i think i've found a new move (and a new bug) that's kinda cool :D

it's a teleportation on purpose, i want to refine it a bit first and test some more as i've only managed it along the arena walls, then i'll post more

might be this is old news but i haven't heard anyone talking about a guaranteed teleportation before so...

anyway it seems the move creates an open-ended tunnel, but that needs checking as well - could be the ultimate speedstrip!

it wasn't as unheard of as i thought, Road Kill said he'd done this a few times and even had a link to a bug report on the armagetron sourceforge forum: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.ph ... tid=106185

a quote from Z-man on this bug:
"I'll lower the priority because no sane person will run across it while playing normally."
LOL

earlier today at armagoshdarn RK, C + others & i found out that it is possible against player walls as well (but harder) :D

n54, that's a sweet graphic you made up, thanks.

in fact i found a couple ways myself yesterday to escape the arena: one is simply making the arena small enough so that your starting position is on the outside(!)

but the other involves that trick bug-reported on sourceforge already: 1) jack up your rubber, 2) 'burrow' against the arena wall until you break through, roughly a 1/3 chance of succeeding.

i would attach some PNG SS's but it looks like they are turned off on this forums.

i had to make some kind of picture trying to show it as just using words could be a bit to easy to misinterpret since there are a few moves/techniques that can seem similar (180's and repeated 180's or trying to escape the arena), and which are much more normal - i wanted to point out the fact that it can be used to make a "perfect" speed strip :D

btw i put the image on the web and liked to it using the BBCode Img tag <- works

its not necessarily guaranteed, in goshdarn susually yes but in grids with more than 4 rubber its more likely you make the u turn
