Let me know what you're thinking of, I just registered for the wiki, love to start getting my hands dirty now.compguygene wrote:I really think that US...(as in not dev's but players and server admins) should be writing and updating the Wiki a whole lot more. We all like to point fingers at the other guy that didn't write enough docs, when we need to write them.
To that end, I have been taking forum posts that are stuck in the Wild West World and collecting them into more cohesive actual documents for the Wiki.
I ain't saying that we at Wild West have some "secret" or "unknown" stuff. But, we have some well written forum posts that I can easily massage into good Wiki posts.
As soon as I learn how to build a CTF server, I would like to build a Wiki page for it, to make it easy for others.
I would like to see others in the community that are NOT developers do this.
Developers should be freed as much as possible to write code! That's whats going to grow arma! Free the dev's and get the community to write doc's. Other open source community have people who just write doc's, why not us?
I just think it's time for us to grow up a little in that way...but hey...anarchy rocks!

Yo! Since this thread served as a way for me to vomit ideas all over you all, I thought I should at least come back and talk a little more before I become completely engulfed in flames...
Overall, I really like the idea of pumping new life into Armagetron, but I believe the scope of the project is so vast to those who are deeply involved that any changes or modifications seem burdensome and time-consuming. Organization and communication is key, but few people are good at the very least adequately organizing information, and the ones who are capable don't have the time.
Basically, as I read the responses to my ideas I learned a great deal about the nature of the community and its developers. One general idea I've gotten is that the developers' time is worth more than giving attention to the lesser important jobs, which should be handled by us peons and serfs. There's no shame in being a general user of this game, nor is there any in wanting to help out. So it doesn't matter how much truth there is to that statement, it's just what I interpreted. However, this has lead me to believe that other than enhancing organization and communication, specialized tools need to be granted freely and in their explicit entirety to the community to keep it alive and kicking, which means that even the uber-busy coders need to hand over some of the reins they clutch (and maybe even some ideas about improvements) to the community and those that want to help. Don't be afraid to post an idea of what can be improved in the community! And when you do, those who reply should keep in mind that even bad ideas can lead to good results. Let's all take ownership and pride in allowing Armagetron growth and evolution.
I'm not exactly sure what turned me off, but I can definitely say that it's not easy to catalyze movement here. Resistance is multi-faceted and over-complicated. The self-importance of some members of this community is a disease that has debilitated its evolution for too long.

I just wanted to say I refuse to read all of this thread.
I play other games like WoW, D2 (excited for D3) and i've thought lately about spamming this website and a link to get the game for differant OS's. In a game where over 11million people play, don't you think some of those people might try it out?
I know this has nothing to do with the majority of your topic, but I did see some posts about where is this game going and could it get any bigger etc etc. I know many other people play differant games with lots o' people. If other people that play tron do THEIR own part to promote arma, I think it would go a long way.

Re: Armagetron Revitalization?
looks like there was an explosion of energy back there
and people went off in all kinds of directions...
is there is an armacorp, apparition?
is concs armatronic fork complete or dead?
has lacka translated the deliberatorium onto the wiki?
still think we need something like a simple grind at launch
players
which means we grind each other to some form of completion
and then split our separate ways
to our mutual benefit
