Can you survive the MAZE-A-TRON?

Post by sinewav »

Description: In this 12-level single-player game, collect as many zones as possible (before they expire) then enter the winzone. No brakes or wall acceleration - you just keep going faster!

I haven't been around long enough to know better, but I think I've just created the first exclusively single-player, level-based server for Armagetron. I took my inspiration from the golden age of gaming, especially the game Joust (one of my favorite). Players are kept under increasing stress throughout the round and through the set of levels.

Admittedly, it can be compared to a cross between CTWF and Nexus9. But the physics and gameplay are unlike any other server I've see so far. Centered around the setting CYCLE_SPEED_DECAY_BELOW, players cannot control their speed at all - but instead are pushed faster and faster.

I enjoy it so much, I may make a multi-player version of this game. I hope you enjoy it too.

Note: There is one issue with the game I haven't gotten around to fixing yet. It doesn't always start at Level 1 when you enter. But I should have that cleared up soon.

this is really fun.

what's the maximum score for 12 rounds disregarding kills?

In my extremely limited personal experience I found the easy levels too hard and the hard levels too easy.

Was just in there about 30 min ago. I started on level 7, lol! It was difficult.

100 pts - Zone (x6)
200 pts - Win
50 pts - Survive
850x12=10200

Kills are 25 points times 64 enemies for and additional amount of 1600. Of course, getting points for all the kills is next to impossible.

My high score is around 7200. I want to collect high scores and output them to the console after the match, but I don't have the know-how to do such a thing. I guess I could pay someone though. Or people can post their scores here and I can add them to the MOD manually.

That's pretty impressive. You'll have to tell me your secret one day.

It's in his signature, and the topic. ;)

That aside, this seems like a good idea. Without playing it, it doesn't seem like there's a particular relationship to normal don't-hit-someone-else's-wall game play, but would certainly help familiarize a player with some of the other game elements.

It's probably full. When I checked it showed up on the server list but was 1 player out of 1 max.

The bots movement is sequential.

I think you got lucky. I know there is a pattern that kind of works, but when I play, the bots are too irregular to use it every time.

I remember getting a score like yours when I was writing/testing the game several months ago, but I haven't been able to get that score since.

Can't quite get the pattern. Seems to work OK until the green level, then the bots get all crazy. Any suggestions?
