Tourneys, streaming and spectators limitations

Post by takburger »

Hello everyone.

This topic got discussed many times before, but I was not very good at finding the dead related topic so I'm opening a new one.

I recently got a new ISP with stupid bandwidth. I am willing to propose that connection for streaming Ladles (and other tourneys) and then reducing the amount of specs during Ladle final and semis (I got 2 computers that can stream simultaneously).

I'm sure almost everyone is persuaded that the amount of specs is reducing servers quality for players and then harming tourneys overall fun.

Such a thing would be useful for me to setup only if CFG got changed and people actually sit out of the spec during the tourneys.

I'm available for some tests of the process beforehand of course.

We could also have some players describing the finals and use that to promote the game a little.

Waiting for your inputs.

Streaming is our only real possibility of a short-term solution. So if you're willing to do this you should.

But I need spec spots to be reduced and stream to be promoted on the server msg, if this do not happen there is no point on streaming because everybody will go spec instead of stream :)

Epsy made a good streaming HUD for .3 iirc, maybe it can be transferred over to .4

ok gotta compile 0.4 and set up everything then. I'll update later this thread to run some tests with people before a tourney.

Streaming would be nice for the upcoming Fork, as Durf suggested, but the Fork is at jeopardy (we do not know if we will even have it, or if we will have it at the right time.)

when we streamed ladle, elmo and liz i think gave a great commentry of the whole thing, i think thats whats needed, people with charisma and charm to sell the game. I would offer myself but i wont have the time for ladles anymore but the idea is a good one

Or have moderators kicking everyone except finalists, other moderators, streaming people (ie you), and people recording (ie z-man).

maybe a server name change

Ladle 87 (Crazy Tronner's USA) - watch live @ http://live.armatourney.net/
(I could point that subdomain to some place)

I'd like to see it set up and working before I reduce slots on servers

I want to make it this weekend. However people seem to want me to install 0.4 to stream so they make a cockpit etc.

I dunno how to compile 0.4 on mac. Tell me how to :)
