2013 Sumobar Major

The 2013 Sumobar Major will be played Sunday 21 July.

At 17:00 GMT on 14 July, the Top 24 ranked players will receive automatic bids for the Major. They have until Friday to confirm their attendance.

Meanwhile players ranked 25-64 can reserve a spot in the qualifying tournament on Saturday 20 July. The qualifying tournament will be seeded by ladder rank, and the eight finalists will get play-in bids in the Major the next day. Top 24 players who did not confirm their attendance may also compete in the qualifying tournament.

Is this the way sumo tournaments are going to be done now? You have to be a certain ranking in your system to play? Or is this a one/few time thing?

I think this is more of an incentive than anything. If I understand it correctly, it's a sumo tournament directly linked to the tour rankings. I'd imagine other sumo tournaments could be held independently of the ranking (As long as it's not hosted by Concord). Of course with Cody's recent resignation, I don't see a lot of sumo tourneys in the near future.

Sumo Majors are now added to TR. The winner will gain 1200 points, second gain 850, 3rd and 4th gain 600.
