Sumo Bar Tournament
Ok so I've been thinking about this for a few months, and here's how I'd design the rules/settings if I were to make a sumo tournament:
* Empha's Sumo Bar map
* No score limit, every match is 10 game rounds.
* 8 players in one match, the top 4 in each match advances to the next round.
* In the case of an exact tie for 4th place, the one on top (the one who had the score first) will advance.
* When there are only 8 players left in the tourney, that'll be the semi final. The best 4 advance to a final on the same server/map/settings, and winner of this one match takes all.
I don't know how many of you remember the Ww hosted (individual) sumo tournaments. It was played on the classic sumo map with settings that differ a bit from mine, but they were still some of the most fun sumo tourneys I've ever played, and I miss the idea of individual tourneys that aren't 1v1.
The reason of choosing the empha (8*1) map is simply because the classic (4*2) map provides a clear disadvantage for the 4th player on the scoreboard and an advantage for those who are trying to catch up. That and its intense attributes.
This tournament would be held Sunday June 26th, in about one month
For this first tourney, the max amount of players would be 64 to keep it short enough for a one day event, and it'll need at least 32 players to make a decent tourney. I'll make a wiki, make rincludes, get servers and write down clear rules once I'm assured we'll get enough players.
Vote Yes if you're interested!
Edit: Due to the short length of these matches, I will think some more about how the final will be played (preferably somehow with 8 in the zone without making it an anti-climax. Maybe a longer limit_rounds is in order)
And also, due to the limited length of the matches there'll be time for more rounds, so in the future up to 128 players or maybe even twice that could be allowed. It's a matter of getting enough servers and a working admin system.

As "gay" isn't a derogative word, why post something random like that? Stop trolling.

Small problem: at what point at the end of the match do you sample for the top 4? Teams and players can gain points after a match limit has been hit—for example the 2nd place team ends up with a greater score than the match winner team (not an uncommon event). The standings could be altered in the small duration played at the end of the match.Titanoboa wrote:* 8 players in one match, the top 4 in each match advances to the next round.

Also—I'm not really a fan of the tie-breaker, but I can't think of a better one.
This tournament sounds fun, I'll probably participate.

Coincidentally, as it's decided by limit_rounds, the match will never end in the middle of a round!
And to be more clear: If someone dies (which would affect the 1-4th players) after the "Match Winner:" center message is displayed, that still counts. All 10 (entire) rounds count.

Re: Sumo Bar Tournament
So the center message displays the winner and the other 3 who move on may change "after the round is over".
So:
Player 1 wins with 1020 points and the message is displayed that he wins.
Player 2 gets a kill and zone points after the message and gets 1030 points.
Player 3 gets 900 points and moves on.
Player 4 has 800 points by the center message and should move on.
Player 5 had 780 points at the center message but gets zone points after and pulls ahead of player 4 with 810 points.
So the top 4 that move on are:
Players 1 (winner), 2, 3, 5?
What if Player 4 left right as the center message was displayed so that Player 5's zone points don't affect him?
DQ for those who leave before the black screen is displayed after a match?
