A little, but unfortunately I don't have the time right at the moment to pursue any of them... :/

Unfortunately it's becoming quite necessary now. 12 spam pages in 8 hours. It makes me a little more careless deleting and banning because it's not worth the time. If I happen to delete something or ban someone wrongly, just contact me (or another admin) and I'll fix it.

dlh, Jonathan, if one of you wants to get ssh access to look at installing some of the anti-spam stuff that's acceptable to me, and might be better in the long run as well.

It seems the captcha is working, so either Tank fixed the problem he was having with reCAPTCHA or he gave Jonathan access to do it. Hopefully this helps curb the spam.

is it possible to disable the captcha for people who already wrote some articles in a certain time that weren't removed by anybody? sometimes it is annoying... ><

Did something happen to the wiki again?

At two different instances, 3 and 4 users were created at the same minute.

I doubt it is coincidental.

Some of them have filled their user pages with spam. Others might do likewise later.

Would be interesting to see if their IP addresses are related. Being 'merely' an administrator, I don't think I can see those.

No, not without some custom configuration or help from another extension. You can make a new group and manually add in users that wouldn't need to use the captcha, but I'm not going to manually maintain a “trusted” list.

About the recent spam: Nothing has changed, so it's either real people (not bots) filling out the captcha, or they have software to crack it.

If you want to check IP addresses you need to be in the “Check users” group—you can then use Special:CheckUser.

I've installed another tool called AbuseFilter to try and slow down the spam.

For Administrators: All the good rules defined on wikipedia.org are marked as private, so I must create my own. :|
